"It was quite a journey!"
I was a software developer already when I decided to take the Dojo, I have many years of experience mostly with Microsoft technologies and Windows Desktop applications.
But here in the US and especially in Silicon Valley, I wasn't able to get a job in... Read More
So I listened to my friend's advise and started to search for an excellent coding bootcamp, where are many coding bootcamp in Silicon Valley.
It was hard to select one, so I checked the technologies they covered, the training method, the daily basis, and of course, the commute.
They have an open house once a month, so I went there and saw the environment, talked to the instructors and students as well.
Taking all these in the equation, I decided to choose Coding Dojo San Jose (Silicon Valley branch) and to get the Onsite program.
We had two weeks for web fundamental, a month for Full Stack Python; then we could choose between available technologies, I picked Full Stack Java which was a month again, and then for the last Stack I chose MEAN, after one month of MEAN.
At the end of each step, we had an exam, which was creating a fully functioning website, backend, and frontend, in a short amount of time, whoever creates all the functionally gets Balck Belt, minimum requirements have done gets Red Belt or Fails!
After passing 3rd stack we graduated, and then the most important part of the job searching process started, for two weeks we had group sessions with Job Development Pros, learning about creating or changing our resume, setup or improve our Linkedin account and learn about other job search websites, and also completing our personal projects.
So here is my advice, if you think you are going to come to Dojo or any bootcamp to so magically turn into a software developer, it is not going to happen! It is like the bodybuilding process, you have to work out, study, work out, study, and work out, and again study; Dojo shows you the way, gives you exactly the information you need to know, and give you the references to study and learn more, and deepen your knowledge.
This is a very intense program, and if you get the Onsite program, you wouldn't be able to work and come to Dojo, not even one day a week! You are at Dojo 5 days a week, you need to continue to study and do your homework for hours when you get home, and you need to dedicate more hours at the weekends too IF you are going to make something POWERFULL out of this and get hired soon.

"My Journey into Software Development"
I was in a position that you, the reader, are likely in right now. The details obviously may differ, but a career transition/change is no simple feat. I'll give some short backstory then describe my experience at Coding Dojo.
I worked as a consultant... Read More
For me, the bootcamp I wanted to enroll in needed to meet two criteria. 1: It had to be reputable, and 2: It had to be a short distance from my apartment. Coding Dojo met both, and its approach was interesting–teach three full technology stacks, where most bootcamps teach one. I figured the breadth of knowledge might put me at an advantage over other candidates come the job hunt. I started in March of 2018.
A bit about my experience: The Coding Dojo curriculum moves extremely quickly. It's not easy. If you take it seriously and put in the work to keep up, you will finish the program surprised with your capabilities. I left the bootcamp feeling two things. 1: Initimidated by the world I had thrown myself into, yet, 2: Strangely confident in my ability to learn. The instructors are helpful without handing you answers, and there's a ping pong table. Pluses all around.
Two months after finishing the program, I was hired as a software engineer. My company specializes in Internet of Things/Alexa business solutions via the AWS (Amazon Web Services) platform. We also do a good amount of machine learning/edge computing. Day to day, I'm a backend engineer. I use Python and Node (both taught at the Dojo) and discuss high level architecture for projects, which was also stressed during my time at the bootcamp.
There are definitely many great choices when it comes to bootcamps. In my experience, Coding Dojo is one of them.

One thing that I wish could improve is the transparency in what courses were available to us throughout our times as students. When finished with a stack, I was often unaware of the option of stacks to choose from moving forward. I hope that the Coding Dojo aims to provide an even more expansive range of stacks to choose from, and maybe host a few tech seminars to describe and delve into more software frameworks.
