They say that no coding experience is needed for the data analytics boot camp, but students with no coding experience are at a severe disadvantage starting in week two. Read More previous coding experience have no trouble getting through the material while those with no experience quickly fall behind. By the time students that are new to coding realize that the course is geared towards more experienced students, it is too late to get a refund. The time estimates for each module are very misleading as they are based on students that have some level of competency in coding. Any potential students that have no prior experience should probably double or triple the time estimates. Potential students should be extremely cautious about the one week drop period. The first week is basic excel then the course goes straight into coding at break-neck speed. People that already work in this field or have a computer science background seemed to excel, while those of us that were new to this field got left in the dust. It is very misleading that they claim no prior experience is needed.

The subject matter was quickly covered and not explained nor was there any checking for understanding. In hindsight, I should have been wary of the class when the three requirements for graduation were: 1, complete homework; 2. attend class; 3. PAY tuition. In fact, they were most insistent about the third as, to be honest, not one of my homework projects worked and I still passed the class. Also, and I realize that this was a circumstance that was outside the control of the class, the course was switched to online due to the pandemic. As internet connections from both the instructor and for myself were sketchy at times, this made the course a totally different experience than what I had initially signed up for. In fact, I purposely avoided online bootcamp when looking for a course to take. Projects were assigned, yet most times, they were never functioning, leaving portfolios incomplete at best. After completing this course, career services provided no assistance. All in all, this course was not good.

The course was not what was purported to be. As a novice, I expected an intense, challenging course that would prepare me for a new career. Most instruction was accompanied by googling information and how to do things. In fact, free web videos from sources like traversy Coding are far more informative and useful. Furthermore, the instructor was unwelcoming to questions or explanations. Instead, he spoke in jargon, went off on tangents, and only provide cheerleading type support. Also, one of the TA's left midway through the course, demonstrating the lack of consistency in the training. At the conclusion of the coursework, career services was completely useless. The only support that they provided was to give a list of jobboards that may have career options. Please learn from my mistake, this coding bootcamp is not worth the $11,000+ or the time.
