Then there is your mentor who helps you with your projects and mock interviews for tech roles. Not to mention official support provided by Code Institute employees when you encounter bugs, have questions, need extensions. I received nothing but constant support throughout my course. I started this programme to build on my master's degree to increase my employability further. In my opinion, the biggest advantage this course provides is the community that comes with it. There are so many great people in the membership of the Slack... Read More community of Code Institute. I have found that posting about an issue I am having there would often lead to a faster resolution than posting about it on Stack Overflow. Looking back, I can safely say I was accepted in the community with enthusiasm where often community members would try to keep me motivated towards fixing a particular issue with my code. You get to stay in the Slack community as much as you want after you graduate as well which gives you access to a big network of developers! Code Institute also assigns you a mentor for your portfolio projects, and this coupled with the code tutoring support they offer for free, I seldom had issues finding fixes for my issues. I want to underline their members-only Hackathons as well. These events offer highly competitive and equally rewarding developing experiences which I found to be highly valuable for my journey as a professional as well. While I haven't won any awards from them, I learned something new that I could use in my projects every time. However, it is fair that I introduced some areas that I wasn't very happy about. The first of which is that, while Code Institute offers a lot in terms of exposure to employers through career events, talks etc., there is no guarantee of a job after graduation. And unless you have a relevant BA or MA under your belt that you can leverage, you will be at a fair disadvantage against people with full CS backgrounds. I must be clear that there are many success stories in the alumni of the programme. But, it is important to me that the readers of this review make their decision based on realistic factors associated with this course. Further, the curriculum itself is purely based on self-thought education. This wasn't a problem for me as I enjoy this style of learning. However, more importantly, the content in the later stages features outdated videos and links that no longer have direct relevance to the subject matter of the relevant module. The CI staff work tirelessly to rectify when such cases arise but often not quickly enough for you not to have to go outside of their learning platform to seek a solution. Finally, I do not like the fact that you lose access to the entire learning platform once you get your diploma. While I understand this is done so that the content they feature is not leaked and kept secure, it is a major inconvenience to lose access to the content I relied on to learn software development. I appreciate the fact that they do all they can to cater for the feedback of their students, but I would be happy to see a solution that may rectify this issue. Overall, I enjoyed my education experience and felt accomplished once finished the programme. If you are okay with the problems I mentioned in this review, then I can say that you should feel comfortable starting this course.

Tutors are available almost all of the time, and the help and encouragement of my mentor Chris was invaluable! The content of the course also felt high-quality, and I was kept engaged with what I was learning about. Naturally as I progressed through the course the concepts started to become harder to grasp and had more complexity, but this is where the support resources were a big help! I worked on and created projects that I previously would have had no idea how to approach, and have completed my diploma with what I feel is solid foundational knowledge which I aim to build upon through further learning!
