About Codeworks

Location: Online, Barcelona, Berlin, London

Codeworks is an immersive coding bootcamp with campuses across several cities worldwide. You can attend their courses in-person at one of the available locations, or remotely from wherever you are. Programs include 8-week and 12-week full-time software... Read More

All programs cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, Express, Angular, and React, as well as SQL and NoSQL databases. The 12-week course also covers DevOps, continuous deployment, and systems architecture.

The courses are divided into two sections: theory and advanced programming topics, and applied learning through building complete products. Codeworks aims to help students build complex apps and gain an advanced understanding of JavaScript. Graduates should be able to build entire applications and contribute to coding projects of any size.

Codeworks is tailored for people at any level with a three-part program process. To apply, candidates must first pass an admission challenge. Applicants with no previous coding experience are offered a remote intro course which covers programming fundamentals, basic JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and more. Once admitted into the program, students complete an 8-week, remote pre-course covering intermediate programming topics like jQuery, Git, Developer tools, and intro to APIs. Once students pass the pre-course, they can start the main programming course.

All Codeworks programs include hiring events at the end of the course, including portfolio preparation and tech interview training. Finally, all graduates receive lifelong career support, and become part of an international network of alumni and partner companies.

"Amazing expirience!"

The software engineering bootcamp at Codeworks has changed my life.

I spent 12 hours every day, 6 days a week for 3 months at the bootcamp, still the time seemed too brief. The things you learn (not only coding), the amazing people you meet, the excellent... Read More

Attending the bootcamp has helped me boost my career immensely. It has enabled me to find a great job, where I can apply all the concepts and skills acquired by me at the bootcamp, only two months after graduation. I am still in touch with their job support staff who constantly provide me with career guidance.

I would highly recommend this bootcamp to all the people looking for a successful career as a software engineer.

"Three intense but not exhausting months"

Before starting the Bootcamp I didn't know if I would endure the intensity. But I just spend every day learning something new without ever thinking about the time. I would recommend it even if you don't want to work in the technical department.

"I was expecting more"

Since the beginning I felt like I was treated like money. There were some complains the first days of the bootcamp and Barcelona because the lectures in Zoom were exhausting. The answer that we got was that if we didn´t like we could leave at any time.... Read More

When I signed up on there website they had that there were conferences by professionals in the industry in the same campus... We didn´t recieved any. In the syllabus we had presentations from the alumini at the end of the day in which they weren´t very good due you were not getting any feedback, "you can record yourself and look the points in which you can improve...".

About the curriculum. I think that learning jQuery was a waste of time. You are given lots of topics and you could have consolidated them better with some extra time. But jQuery was a must do to roll into the bootcamp. You were left with the official Docs for a day time to time, I felt like they could have prepared something.

When covid happent there was poor action taken by the bootcamp. We went remote for a quarter of the bootcamp and I did not see any money back from doing it from home. They have an option from doing the bootcamp remote that it is 2000 euros cheaper. They refused to give me back a quarter of it.

In other hand, my objectives were to find a job as a software engineer and I achived that 4 weeks after completing the bootcamp even if the salary wasn´t close to the stadistics( they look unrealistic to me, just my opinion ) that they provided in their site. I have learn very good practices thanks to some amazing TA. Half of them are recent graduates.

In conclusion, I didn´t have many problems to work as a mid Level engineer after 3 months precourse + 3 months bootcamp + 4 weeks interviews. Therefore they did something well and it work all out at the end. By the way the job support is 10 out of 10, Marc is a star a he will help you all the way trough.

Official Response from Codeworks

Dear student, we’re sorry to hear you have mixed feelings and something didn’t work out as you wish. On the other hand, don’t you think it would be fair for someone to stand by their complaints instead of leaving an anonymous review? Even if maybe it... Read More

A few lines later in your message it becomes clear how you are upset mainly because you didn’t receive a partial refund for the last 4 weeks of the course (when you had to switch to the remote format due to COVID). As we explained back then, the lockdown was required by law, and it affected only a minimal part of your course. We can’t cancel the space rent for a few weeks, and even during those days we kept the campus accessible to students (in fact you came several times).

You are completely right on one thing though: we couldn’t have any conferences on campus (whereas we regularly had them in the past). Unfortunately, COVID stopped all conferencing weeks before the lockdown was declared (even events like the Mobile World Congress, and the F8 Developer conference were canceled for the same reason).

And about jQuery, we’re sorry that you consider it useless. While we give much more importance and space to learning modern frameworks like React and Angular, we still believe it makes sense to keep jQuery as a small section in the initial part of our curriculum, because it teaches some important programming concepts that transcend the trend of the moment. By the way, in case it’s useful, consider that even in 2020 it’s the most used JS library in the world: https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2020#technology-web-frameworks

Finally, regarding the salary topic. I can assure you that the numbers on our website are 100% accurate, up to date, and based on the data we directly collect from all students. You are a good programmer, but for some mysterious reason you decided to ignore all the advice and feedback we gave you for months regarding your job search (during and after the course), which unfortunately ended up affecting your salary level.

To conclude, COVID has created enormous challenges this year, and even under such circumstances we have spent countless extra support hours to make sure that every Codeworks student could have the best possible course and find the job they wanted. Keep in mind that these are the same months during which most companies decided to completely halt their hiring, many had to let down a lot of workers, and some went bankrupt.

If you could see and understand all the difficulties we had to overcome this year, and all the extra steps we took to protect our students, maybe your perspective would change. Maybe you would focus on how incredible it is that almost everything in your course worked perfectly fine, while the rest of the world was going upside down.

With only my Math background, it would have been difficult, if not almost impossible to get a job on my own in the industry. However, after one short month having finished the course, I managed to land a job at a start up where I feel valued for my skills.

Codeworks was definitely an experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to learn coding from the beginning, or needs a refresher.

"Five days worth of hundreds hours of online learning"

The Corporate Training has been a very useful experience. Our class was a small group and all of us have learned Javascript muddling through with online courses like many in people these days. In five 8-hour sessions we could set a rock solid base on... Read More

The sessions combined in a dynamic way code-alongs, pair programming, solo practice and small chunks of theory. Although it was quite challenging at times, the classes were adapted to our rhythm so we have not been overwhelmed. With the excuse of the time scarcity, many courses throw at you a lot of content in a way that simply does not stick into your mind. Few weeks after the course I can say my way of coding has definitely improved. We even had some time to solve doubts related to our product.

I would recommend this kind of program to any company as a quick way to develop the skills of the team. As I said in the title, being a few days in Codeworks away from our daily duties has been worth hundreds of hours of online code alongs and documentation reading.

"Want to learn how to code?"

If you're reading this review I'm assuming that you're interested in learning how to code and are considering if Codeworks is the right choice for you (or maybe you just enjoy reading reviews which is a bit weird tbh).

If your goal is to become a freelance... Read More

What makes Codeworks different from it's alternatives is the fact that you will not only learn the practical skills of writing good code, but more importantly you will learn how to think like a software engineer (you may think that coding === software engineering, but it's not).

The most valuable things you will learn during your time at Codeworks will come from the experience of working on a team. Being part of a highly motivated team of developers, working towards a common goal, you will acquire skills that no "youtube professor" can teach you.

Finally, if you're not sure you want to become a software developer, but have been convinced after reading positive online reviews, you might be making a huge mistake. Only if you're already convinced you want to be a software developer, and are looking for the best place to achieve that goal, should you apply to Codeworks. You definitely won't regret it.
