Read More instructors have Coding related degrees and tremendous industry background. This definitely helps because they just simply know what is going on while writing those codes. Also, they could answer your questions from a professional view such as "Is javascript the primary language industry uses now?" "What is your opinion on Immersive Coding bootcamps" etc.. Having a knowledgable instructor just helps in a variety of ways.
FSC is great also because the instructor cares about students as individuals. Meeting in person twice a week is definitely helpful especially for those who find it hard to study on their own from books or tutorials. And because of its small class size (my course is 6 people) you get immediate attention and help from the instructor. This is absolutely important because as a coding beginner, there are countless times I run into issues and have no clue why my code does not work. Kurt was accessibly and ready to help.
The instructor always make sure that each one of us are on the same page while they are lecturing and no one got left behind. The instructors can be strict too so they will tell straight what they expect from you so if you are serious about the course, perform the exercises in class and finish the homework on time.

I had been contemplating a career change from business to software development for a while. Before committing to a full-time bootcamp, I wanted to make sure that I would enjoy coding as a full-time job. FSC's twice-weekly evening classes fit into my schedule... Read More and needs perfectly.

I had a blast in class! I loved that the majority of time was spent pair-programming. Coding is hard, so being able to work with another person helped my understanding of concepts through another person's eyes. Kurt, our instructor was also kind and incredibly patient.

Most importantly, I learned the fundamentals well enough to be able to apply to some top bootcamps. I got into my first choice and will be starting in the fall. I couldn't have done it without FSC!

Highly suggest this program!! Remote/night classes were easy for my busy work schedule. The instructor (Shlomy) was a solid teacher and always available via Slack/Screenhero to help with any issues on the homework assignments.

Before this course I had... Read More done some coding before in R, MatLab, and more research focused coding programs. I took this course because now I manage the development of a node.js application and wanted to understand how the product I manage actually works. The course definitely helped with that - plus I realized I actually like software development and want to keep learning more. The course is set up so you can go into a coding bootcamp afterwards, and they'll even help you prepare for interviews, etc. if that's something you're interested in.

I took the NYC class this past June, and it was a great introduction into JavaScript.

First Step Coding class is what you need to get starting on coding. The classes are small and the teachers are knowledgeable and friendly. The best part: the program is offer during the evening twice at week which allowed me to keep working my regular hours and become code literate!

Starting the class with absolutely no coding experience prior, I'm very happy with how much I learned during the Intro to JavaScript Course. Kurt was really great at explaining the fundamentals thoroughly and at a pace that everyone in the class understood.... Read More So much help was offered during and after classroom time. The class size is ideal as well - everyone got to know each other and it was easy to discuss the problems they had with their own code while sticking to schedule.

In my opinion, the best part of this course is the fact that it not only explains JavaScript fundamentals, but Kurt provided the resources and material to keep moving forward and learning more on your own, even if you don't plan on going to a bootcamp, etc. As somebody who plans on continuing my coding practices independently, this is a great asset.

I highly recommend First Step Coding to anybody who wants to start coding confidently. It was a fantastic, incredibly helpful course taught by great people!

I am a 25-year old Solutions Architect who works with developers all day, but with no background in coding. I've been thinking about getting into coding for a while now, but I didn't want to commit financially to an immersive bootcamp, nor quit my full-time... Read More job. Most bootcamps also typically require some background in Javascript, and I didn't know how much of a background was needed, nor the best way to teach myself JS. After some researching, I found out about FSC's course which was significantly less than the typical $15K price tag, and only 4 weeks during after work hours. It was just the right amount for me to get my feet wet (and decide if coding is something I want to make a career of ) while still being able to maintain my full time job. After finishing the course, I have since been able to talk to my developer co-workers about their code...and it feels great. I really learned a lot in this course and cannot recommend it highly enough!
