The instructors are excellent and answer questions outside of class so that you don't fall behind. These programs have given me more confidence in tech, C#, Unity, and solving challenging tech problems. At the end of the program, I had multiple pieces that I could proudly put in my portfolio. They also offer career support and a review of your portfolio (website) which I appreciated. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a career in XR.

Completing the cohort will not get you prepared to start an XR designer role. Almost the only thing they teach is how to use Unity. I would not recommend XR Terra. It's too new and the instructors are not actual teachers. They have a difficult time explaining their thought process and are very bad at responding to student questions. Even when you ask for clarification, they are not... Read More able to do so. They move way too fast for anyone to really comprehend and absorb the materials. They claim the program is for people who are working full-time but it's really not ideal. It's not meant for beginners either.

I have wanted to learn some coding and Unity game development for years, and I worried that I did not have enough of a foundation in programming. Everyone that works at XR Terra put those fears to rest from Day 1. I felt very supported. My classmates inspired me, challenged me, and kept me accountable. The team-based industry projects were amazing, and our instructor Craig Herndon went above and beyond to help us on our Unity projects by keeping office hours all weekend, and Slacking/Zooming whenever needed. Craig's enthusiasm for his students' success is exhilarating. This was my first time taking an all-remote, Zoom video only course, and I’m now founding a company with a few of my XR Terra classmates so we can build a VR project to submit for grant consideration from Oculus Launch Pad! XR Terra made this possible. Even after completing the course, XR Terra continues supporting us with career services, sharing job opportunities, and connecting us to the Extended Reality community here in Boston.
I have emerged with greater self-awareness in my own strengths as a product designer, and I feel super charged with the stack of new technical skills and sensibilities that I have acquired. One of the main positives about the program is that there are two instructors for each half of the course. One instructor walked us through the fundamentals of Unity and introduced us to XR programming. The other instructor was our mentor and our guide... Read More for the two industry projects we had, he helped us troubleshoot, gave us his insights and he was a great guy to work with. Also, the students in the class come from various backgrounds and this could be a huge plus once we got to work in teams for the industry projects since everyone brought their own unique skills to the table.
