PostgreSQL is an open-source, object-relational database management system that has been in development for more than 30 years. It is not interchangeable with SQL; rather, people who are beginning to learn database management usually learn both at the same time.
While many business owners and marketing professionals use PostgreSQL, it’s most often used by database administrators and application developers. The median salary for database administrators in the United States is $90,000, and 9% job growth in this field is expected between 2018 and 2028. The median annual salary for application developers is $103,000, and the job market for software developers (of which application developers are one subset) is projected to grow by 21% between 2018 and 2028. In both cases, the expected growth is faster than the 5% projected rate of growth across all occupations.
