I went through the web development path with a bit of prior knowledge. I found about 1/4 of the lessons to have an error about what they were teaching. Many were typos and a handful were just outdated or incorrect. I kept using their bug reporting and... Read More started talking to others. Apparently I'm not alone, the curriculum for web development is filled with holes.

Just like others below I had a subscription accidently charged and tried to cancel it on the same day of the charge. I got a quick, generic response telling me that the policy doesn't allow for any refunds at all. They'd rather have a bunch of angry customers like me (see below) than provide effective tools to learn programming.

I recently graduated with a finance degree but am looking to continue developing my coding abilities. At first glance, I thought codecademy was a great way to advance my desired skills. I tried the service for a week and it was great. At the time, I didn't... Read More have room in my busy schedule to continue using the service. Due to my work travels, I missed the deadline to cancel my subscription by less than 24 hours. Low and behold, when I contacted their customer support to ask for a reimbursement I was given a cold and harsh no. I offered many solutions to prove this human error, such as my lack of activity during the time since I was automatically charged, but nothing. What is worse, I did not even receive an email reminder that the charge was being automatically renewed. The customer service agent who was rude and unwilling to listen to my request refused to even investigate the possibility of receiving a reimbursement. I understand Terms and Agreements detail this type of information but customer service is about showing sympathy sometimes. We're all humans. We make mistakes. Our lives are busy. So why not show sympathy to a customer who genuinely enjoyed the service. I had originally planned to return this coming month but after this experience I don't have much confidence in the company as a whole.

There's a lot to love about Code Academy. There's also a lot to be desired.

Pros: Built in interface for 90% of it. You just need your browser.

Cons: Terrible instructions for obtaining and using coding software. Also, makes occasional quantum leaps and... Read More leaves the user googling to understand the current topic. Finally, the price point is awful considering the first two "cons". It's a poorly organized "class" and much more a loosely slapped together lesson plan that hopes you fill in the dots.

I purchased an intensive course. At first it was great, however, the first real project would not run on my computer, even with the completed code downloaded from the site. I spoke to 5 customer support representatives before the problem was even acknowledged.... Read More The entire process was such a time suck (3 days that I couldn't continue the course) that it made the entire experience unpleasant. On top of that, Codeacademy set up a subscription through my Paypal account without my permission. Pretty disappointed overall.

Weekly one on one mentors as the Code Academy Website stated never happened. We met two mentors in person once each in class and never saw them again. Another two mentors were introduced via video chats and we never saw them again either.
We were never... Read More enrolled in a “career placement network.” The only assistance we received in this arena was a few job openings posted occasionally through a jobs channel on Slack and recommendations that we “just Google” job openings.
Program accreditation was promised to be completed before the end of the Capstone Project by Micah Yost, the Faculty Leader, who left the program as it started to fall apart. He designed the program as a marketing scheme for his marketing company Method Mark. None of the promises he and the university made were fulfilled.

We were told that the program would be accredited and that credits would be given for the program. We later learned that the process for accreditation was never even started and would never be pursued at all.

The instructors though sweet and kind have no teaching experience at all. Wow, we paid $12,000 for this bootcamp!

Based on the excellent reputation of Midland University we were lead to believe that the Midland Code Academy was a high-quality program that was backed by the University under the umbrella of its policies and would provide a learning environment that enhances academic excellence and integrity. However, there was no follow-through on the goals, as we do not have the skills, portfolios, or the networks to help us obtain one of the supposed hundreds of jobs available.

None of the promises made to us during the open house, during classes, or on the website were met.

Obviously, the University was not prepared to adequately deliver the Code Academy, and we have paid the price in many ways
We feel that we deserve and are requesting a full refund of all monies paid by or on behalf of each student in the Midland University Code Academy program.

I did the front-end developer (React.js) course I thought the Codecademy coursework was very good, but you can get that through a $20 pro subscription without having to shell out for a $200 intensive.

There were a bunch of things that felt like a scam... Read More about it. Some of the big ones were:
-They advertise it as having two graded projects. Project one was a real project. Project two was just adding a feature to project one--a complete disappointment when I was expecting an actual project.
-The support staff available to help are either often unavailable or struggle to figure out a solution to most problems.

My React and front-end skills progressed considerably during this course. This was due to good coursework and interesting, challenging projects. I often built skills through research and troubleshooting on my own. The scammy nature of how this program was advertised compared to what was provided is why I must give it 1 star.

It was with general assembly that i learned data analytics and developed the basics for the subject with the data analytics circuit. I have also recommended my sister who has a major in finance to get stared in coding with some general assembly coding... Read More boot-camps which she has signed up for !

I am taking the "Build Websites From Scratch" course, a 12 week part-time course covering the basics of HTML, CSS, Github, and Javascript. The course includes online lessons, projects, quizzes, and access to feedback from advisers via a chat feature when... Read More you get stuck. Three of the projects are submitted and reviewed by an advisor.

I'm almost done with the course and I have learned a lot, but I have also spent a lot of time submitting bug tickets for errors with their lessons. It's way too many given that I paid good money for this course. It's mostly little things, but to someone learning these concepts for the first time it can be really confusing. Some examples include:

- Example code where the class name in the html is different than for the css rule (class = "big" vs .large)
- Redline specifications errors for projects, such as 'font-family: 10px;'
- Instructions to update an existing '.jumbotron' class that exists nowhere in the sample code for the lesson
- A code review which included a recommendation for a topic not yet covered in the course

It would be one thing if this were a free class, but I paid $200 for the course. If it weren't for these errors I'd be much happier with the course overall. It might be best to stick with the free classes when it comes to Codecademy.
