In 2020 was at a cross road in my life. You see I had careers within the U. S. Federal Government, private sector and nonprofit sector. In 2015 while working in Germany, I had a medical scare that had to be managed stateside immediately. This was the... Read More first time I had to put myself first. I took the next several years prioritizing my health and spending much needed time with family. In late 2019, my doctors gave me the okay that my health has been stable and I could resume traveling and working. Then came COVID 19, I thought of what did I want to do with this second act of my life. I thought of going into IT, cybersecurity or education. Then I heard this buzz word Data Science, an emerging field that was under serviced. During the locked down I spent the better part of 2020 researching and learning about this field. Shared my intention with my mother “Lady Di”. She gave me the thumbs up and said “I can see you excelling in the Data Science field.” That was all I needed to take the next steps. I knew once I returned from Canada and everything settled down I would look for a school. Life thru me a curve ball when both my parents contracted COVID 19 in November 2020. My Lady Di was hospitalized and die within 3 weeks of COVID 19. My rock was gone. How can life be meaningful without my greatest fan, my ride or die, the believer in me and everyday caller? I spent that time in a mental daze, somewhat existing however not truly living. What’s next in life? Out of nowhere in October 2021, I received a call from Rich Rizzo at Entity Academy. He proceed to tell me about Entity Academy. I looked at all my research on Data Science bootcamps. Had to make a decision. Why did I chose Entity Academy over all other programs? Good question! It’s a women lead organization with a mission to educate women within the underserved STEM field. The program was longer than a crash 6-14 week bootcamp. It offered 33 weeks of online intense learning, weekly, 1 on 1 with a mentor who follows you throughout the course, individual, group coaching/counseling, learning from Instructors/ Mentors to answer questions in real time, and resume/career coaching with employment assistance and affordability. What Entity Academy taught me were the hard skill (R, MySQL, Python, Statistics, Jupyter Notebooks, GitHub, Tableau, Machine Learning, Agile and Scrum. They also incorporate soft skills (Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving, Leadership, Time Management, and Conflict Resolution) which are more essential than the hard skills. I had to learned flexibility, starting and pivoting with three final projects. Along the way I utilize every service Entity Academy provide. I met some of the smartest, caring and tough Instructors (Joe, Danni, Meredith(videos) and the newest member Mo), Mentors (Emily, Matthew, Nolan and Melissa). They were eagerly available for my repetitive questions, walking me thru problems by asking me probing questions…. By then I would have answered my own questions. That critical thinking piece was essentially what gave me the confidence in trusting myself and using them as a secondary source. I can not thank them all enough for that critical lesson. I know this course is just the beginning on my journey in the Data Science field. This field is evolving, I know I must continue to learn and work these skill. I can honestly say I am leaving this course with more knowledge and confidence than I entered in November 2021. I can confidently say Entity Academy has prepared me for an entry level Data Analyst position. Now who is hiring! Special shout-out to staff who were instrumental in my Journey. Read More between the student and the Mentors, however, there is a closeness that is always felt between Mentee and Mentor. It is truly a hands-on experience. I have been able to get to know the other students as well, some even on a personal basis. This has really helped me excel in my studies and helped me to feel like part of an ongoing group. The Google platform is so uniquely set up, its design is easy to use and fun! I love the promotor badges and Fireside Chats. Looking at the lists makes me want to engage with everyone and try to get as much done as I can! It's truly an immersive experience.

I'm finishing up my 8th week and my 3rd module. I am enjoying this course! Google Classroom is utilized regularly and I see it as part of the course, rather than an extension of the course. There is so much helpful information in the Classroom, apart from the system where the main instruction is. In... Read More GC, we (students) interact to prompts and from those we can see how our colleagues are doing, areas they are excelling and also where there is room for opportunity. This helps me see that I am not alone and many times the same questions I have, someone else has as well. This is also where I see not just instruction, but other offerings from ENTITY, and is also where I gain much encouragement.

I spent a lot of time and research deciding if I should do a bootcamp or return to college for an undergrad. I was a little skeptical of the bootcamps. Entity really changed my mind about that. The financial aid process gave me a lot of confidence in the program as well because my payments are due after I'm done and only if I get a job with a salary above 45,000. (However you do have to get approved for this kind of financing.) The weekly mentor meetings are awesome because not only do you have help with your course work, but also can ask questions about navigating the job field. An added bonus to Entity is that they use Google Classroom on top of your data course work to help you develop your soft skills such as networking, social media, resumes, etc.
