Course Description:

This is not vocational training or job placement, but is open to anyone trained and ready for extra help and an edge in securing their first job, whether Nucamp or other coding bootcamp grads, CS grads, self-taught developers -- are all welcome.

This 4-week course is crammed with the essential prep work required for a successful job search. At a structured pace, with the support of a dedicated Instructor and classroom environment, candidates will learn and practice the necessary skills to stand out to employers and land their dream job. Cover the 4 pillars of job hunting:

Week 1: First Impressions
In this module, we explore who you are, what you are looking for and how to use some of the tools and resources that hiring managers use to find and evaluate you as a potential new-hire. You will start with assessing yourself and identifying which types of positions most interest you. Next you will lay out a plan to create a professional online presence that will showcase your skills, knowledge, and participation in projects. You will spend time reviewing examples of resumes, portfolios, and projects from others to gain ideas, offer feedback and receive feedback of your own presentation. Lastly, you will develop your elevator pitch – a short, 30-second monologue to introduce yourself, your experience and background, and what you are interested in pursuing.

Week 2: The Interview Process
In this module, we cover several resources for creating maximum exposure to you as a potential candidate. Learn approaches to networking both online and within your local community. We will discuss how to effectively look for positions, how to apply, and how to prepare for submitting you application and resume. Freelancing may be an option or desire for some, and you will be introduced to several concepts needed to be successful working within this type of arrangement. Most of the project management concepts covered in freelancing apply directly to internal positions at a company as well.

Week 3: The Interview Process
How can you be best prepared for an interview? What questions will you be asked? What if you don’t know an answer? We discover the answers to these questions and many more. We offer recommendations on how to manage the application process, how to follow up after you have applied, and some perspectives on how to handle rejection. This week also covers some insights on accepting an offer and how and when to negotiate.

Week 4: Technical Know-How
In this final module, we spend time exploring how to gain more experience in the software development industry, learning some of the unique aspects of interviewing for software development and other technical positions. We will consider the nature of internships, apprenticeships, and potential volunteer positions, and how they might fit into your plan. We discuss how to contribute to open-source projects, how to review and update your portfolio website. We examine how to be prepared for the tough technical interview questions by demonstrating how to explain algorithms and data structures and how to present a whiteboard explanation. You will also see demonstrations of presenting these concepts and practice presenting them to peers.

"nucamp review"

my plan after highschool was to go in to computer science, but to not spend a ton of money on college. I thought that getting certifications was the right choice (and I do still think it is)
I found nucamp and since it was not that expensive and seemed... Read More

and then I paid for it, and the introduction hit me

all of the lesson is just Ludo reading off a script that ChatGPT spat out (or something else that just happens to give a 100% on gptzero.me)

the rest of the actual lesson content wasn't much better; there "male" and "female" instructors and that's all I can tell about them...

the content, at least for the backend course, assumes a background with JavaScript, or at least some language with procedural and OOP paradigms.

this is not beginner-friendly. this is a great course to take once you know the basics of computer science, but it's not for people with no experience.

the instructor I got was incredible though, and he reminded me of Richard Stallman so that's a plus (:

overall,
the backend (python + sql + devops) course has pretty good content, but it's not for beginners.

"A Comprehensive and Affordable Investment"

The foundations of most web development are "coding languages," HTML, CSS, and Java Script. This 4-week couse teaches the former two, some Java, and it offers more: Bootstrap and some NodeJS. In 4-weeks you will deploy a website, coded by you and have... Read More

Even if you're not seeking to get hired by a major tech company, you can certainly be more confident in tackling computer issues on other sites and in your personal life. These skills can lead you to be an entrepreneur on sales sites, like Amazon, Shopify, and the like because you get the foundational aspects of what it takes to code and how to maneuver in and out of a web platform. Knowedge, is certainly power.

However, if you choose to be a solopreneur or an employee, you will get the fundamentals that can take you to additional more intermediate and advanced courses.

I chose Nucamp because of the introductory Web Fundamentals that most adults should know how to do. From here one can choose additional coding and specialties: Front stack with mobile, Full stack with mobile, Cybersecurity, and Backend applications.

But, if you decide it's not for you, then it was only a one-month investment that's worth your time and money.

In the long run you will need a modern and comprehensive set of tutorials with the latest software, a dedicated set of instructors that will help you, a large community of developers, career services, and students that also guide and help your progress, including other members of your cohort. All this for an affordable price.

Equivalent courses cost upwards of $18,000, but why pay more when you can have the same instruction but for a fraction of the cost?
