Skillcrush

I am just about done with week three of my first blueprint, Front-End Development, and I have to say that I couldn't be more impressed. Before finding Skillcrush, I attempted to learn HTML and CSS from a free tutorial site. I did learn the nuts and bolts... Read More of *how* to write the code, but I never really understood the *why*.

Then, I found Skillcrush.

The videos in each lesson are short and sweet, but they are packed full of information in easily digested bits. Adda keeps her instruction conversational, and she uses allusions that are easily understandable. I like having the videos because I take a lot of notes, so it's very nice to be able to pause the video and replay as necessary. And if I missed something, there's always the written explanations that follow (and there's a transcript of the video, too).

There's also an online community where we can post questions, seek feedback, and (most importantly) help one another get through the challenge projects. It's really the best of both worlds: on-line/at your own pace learning and a supportive team of instructors and classmates.

Unfortunately, I can't speak to the on-line office hours yet. My crazy work schedule has done a fine job of keeping me out of all of the office hours sessions offered so far. But that doesn't stop me from highly recommending Skillcrush. And I've already signed up for my second blueprint!

I am currently taking the Visual Designer course and loving it!
The material is organized in a diverse fashion with videos, printed materials, and projects.
The instructors are responsive and encouraging and available.
The only difficulty I have is fitting... Read More the video calls into my schedule.
I plan to take the Wordpress class and the Front End Developer class when I finish my current blueprint.

Read More everything about empowering women and creating a community that they promote. I'm starting on my third week of a three month course and I already can't get enough. I can't wait to learn more, finish, and perhaps take another blueprint. They have obviously spent a good deal of time figuring out what information to teach, what order to teach it in, and how to go about teaching it, and this really shows. I am so happy with Skillcrush, I've been recommending it to all of my friends. More than one seem seriously interested in investing in a blueprint. I can't wait to learn more and watch as Skillcrush grows. Bravo!

That is not happening with Skillcrush, their lessons are so well made, that I'm loving this experience. The videos, materials and challenges keeps me motivated and excited to log-in every night and continue with the classes. We use Google groups to clarify questions, share challenges and to get feedback, making the learning experience complete. I have no IT background, before I discovered Skillcrush I didn't even knew that the internet was different to web or the existence of HTML and CSS. I did the 10 Day bootcamp and I loved it. I learned the basics and now I am taking the Front End developer Blueprint, I am only 2 weeks on the class and I am already building a website for a friend that has a small business baking cakes.

As far as cons, I will say that Skillcrush is a great place to start your learning, and as any career you have to continue to study and research. If you already know about HTM and CSS I would recommend to go for the more specialized Blueprint.

I would recommend Skillcrush a 100% if you are like me that know nothing and want to start/refresh your learning on coding.

I am just 24 years old with a BA in Fine Arts, who loves teaching/education and arts. I always wanted to learn how to make my own website from scratch. So I tried to learn to code through free websites but it didn't help me enough because those didn't... Read More have a curriculum that tells me what I need to learn in order to launch a website. Don't get me wrong, I learned a little html and css through those free lessons but I had questions that needed answers. And google-ing those ?s was going to take forever!!! Bottom line, I am that person who needs a curriculum to learn, practice, and do projects to get better, and get my questions answered.

One day I read about Skillcrush through a DailyWorth's article (I think?). I explored their website, signed up to multiple of their webinars, read a lot of reviews, and signed up for the 10-day free bootcamp. I was hesitant to enroll because I did not know which blueprint will teach me how to build a website from scratch. :) Then I knew I wanted to do the Front-End Developer blueprint (there are other programs) after I saw the Front-End Developer Summit webinars. Even though I was scared to enroll in the program, (I overthink too much,ugghhh) I finally enrolled myself 1-hour before the enrollment closed....AND IT'S THE BEST THING I EVER DID. I Loooooooove it so far! (I am on my second week of the blueprint)

You get great supports: office hours, google group forums, and send email to your instructors. The curriculum is awesome!... I mean the courses are broken down into smaller lessons, it's very organize, it contains videos with Adda (making funny faces) teaching you every bit of the lessons, practice coding lessons, quizzes, and you get cheatsheets/guides. I also noticed that I get emails about job posts. how awesome is that!!

I don't know what else to say except that I am having fun learning to code. By the way, it's a little addictive learning to code on skillcrush.

If you're interested in one of the Skillcrush's blueprints but you're hesitant like I was, do what I did: check out skillcrush.com, look at what's in the blueprints, sign up for the free webinars and the 10-day free bootcamp, and read other reviews other than this one you're reading now. What I loved about skillcrush is how they broke the programs into more manageable pieces, 3 months to learn and cover an area, since I do work full time and wasn't able to attend a class in person

I'm definitely a visual learner and the videos and plethora of resources and webinars has opened my mind up to all of the possibilities. I look forward to learning how to code and when I get stuck I know and feel comfortable writing in the Google group to get feedback on my code or try to figure out what I may have messed up.

I am already figuring out what class I will take after the front end developer course I'm currently in and am hoping that this time next year I will either be in another job with a career path and flexibility or will have a booming freelance business to get me on the track to what I want to be doing 5+ years from now.

I am so grateful for finding Skillcrush! They made it easy to enroll and the community is so friendly. Though coding may seem intimidating at first, the curriculum, or blueprints, breaks it down into smaller lessons so you can figure out what how to write... Read More it and what to do wit it in certain instances. I'm also learning things about Front End Development that I never knew before when I was coding in the past.

They
Once you are done, they don't boot you out and say buh-bye, they help you create a path to a career. They help you build a web portfolio. We are exposed to job listings, both freelance and full-time, that we otherwise would not be.

As for cons...let's see...there's Comic-Con...CONye West...Con-Neticut...and the fact that if you have Windows 10, you have to download Chrome to get to Google Hangouts. I did not know this and I missed my first Office Hours appointment. It's a little con that I easily dealt with.

Other than that, I have nothing but love for Skillcrush.

I'm so happy to have discovered Skillcrush. The atmosphere is positive and encouraging, and the content is fun and engaging. These are the most satisfying online courses I've ever taken.

Pros: The course is very flexible with my schedule, since I work 40 hours per week. I like that you are given projects to work on, with each class, sometimes more, as this helps to retain, what I've learned. The SkillCrush Group is awesome! I've learned... Read More so much just by interacting with my class mates and asking Questions. William who is our teacher helps us and encourages us every step of the way.

I can't believe I am actually learning to code! This is the best course for the money, and puts you on a fast learning track. You can always go back and review your projects, correct them as needed. Lots of people to help you and plenty of resources.
