For someone who has taken a break from the workforce, I found this to be a pleasant welcome back to the tech world to learn the latest digital technologies. This was quality curriculum that exceeded my expectations.

During the live class events Ana and Sharon sat with me longer than the scheduled time to help me troubleshoot why my local site wasn't loading. I've finished my first course in the Wordpress developer program and feel confident that with this momentum I can complete the course.

I get that there is a TON of free information out there in regards to skill-building that Skillcrush does. However, Skillcrush curriculum makes it incredibly easy to learn and measure progress which makes for a very motivating experience.

I'm confident... Read More that I could have learned everything I now know, without Skillcrush, but It wouldn't be as fast and I would not have felt this great doing it!

The curriculum is very detailed and takes you on small steps forward and I love that you get lifetime access. I am only part way through and am already going back to old lessons to reinforce learning.

Adda 's personality makes for a fun learning environment as well. She is constantly giving tips and advice to build up industry knowledge along with the technical.

The one thing I would change is student access to the quizzes. One you take a quiz they give you your results but don't include the multiple choice options (which would be great a studying tool).

For me, definitely wasn't worth the money. I joined SkillCrush because I read such good reviews on SwitchUp and Course Report, and because I thought it was for my target demographic (woman, beginner coder). The truth is, it's *way way way WAY overpriced*.... Read More There are much, much better programs out there to learn how to code for a fraction of the cost (freecodecamp or the book series "A Smarter Way to Learn" is by far my favorite and helped me exponentially more than SkillCrush did). SkillCrush does offer a 30 day money-back guarantee, though, and it's completely my own fault for not utilizing that. I signed up for the course, and then suddenly became swamped at work at the end of the year and didn't have a chance to properly start the classes, and by the time I realized that I was dissatisfied, it was too late. I tried messaging and asking if I could get a partial refund at least but I was told that I couldn't because they offer the 30 day guarantee (fair enough).

The videos are short and easy to understand, but in my opinion not nearly thorough enough. And then they don't give you nearly enough exercises to practice what you have learned.

I feel like I ended up wasting $1300 and now I don't really have the budget to purchase much cheaper courses/books etc that I have been recommended by friends, other beginner coders. I bought this at the very beginning of my journey - it was a bit of an impulse buy because I had no idea where to start in learning how to code, and I thought that this would be a comprehensive program that would teach me the way, and it definitely was not.

If the course was a fraction of the price, I would say it would be worth it, but for this price point, absolutely definitely better stuff out there.

Skillcrush has really impressed me as a student. The learning style is laid-back but informative, with plenty of extra resources for continued learning and exploration. The benchmarks feel significant with completed steps of hands-on projects building... Read More your portfolio, and there is a whole community of students and instructors to celebrate your successes and talk you through your challenges, as well as offer immensely helpful critique. I got tired of online coding courses that felt like they got their inspiration from video games (and alas, not Chrono Trigger) because the badges and points never feel like real achievements to me, but Skillcrush is helping me build a real body of work that I can be proud to show off when I am ready to apply for UX design jobs.

my background is in Film Studies and Library Science. i've been employed for 13 years with the same company, but due to lack of mobility my career has become stagnant and therefore it's time for a change. i discovered Skillcrush a few years ago, and decided... Read More to give it a try with the Web Developer blueprint. one of the major draws was the low cost (compared to other boot camps)and that i could still work full-time while learning to code. i also liked how the lessons were broken down into small chunks so you could do as much or as little as you wanted each day, plus the content is absolutely geared towards beginners or anyone who has never coded in their life. unfortunately, once i got to JavaScript it became too overwhelming so i didn't completely finish the 12-week blueprint. still, i decided to give the Web Design blueprint a shot, as i had already received familiarity with HTML/CSS from the previous blueprint. once again, i didn't fully complete this one because Photoshop gave me all sorts of issues. the cost of Photoshop alone is ridiculous, so my suggestion to Skillcrush would be to perhaps see about working out deals with Adobe to provide discounts to students (they already are terrific at giving different payment options for their courses, including offering $200 off blueprints at certain times of the year).

despite leaving 2 blueprints incomplete, i opted for the WordPress Developer blueprint to see if i could make it through that one...same story. life got in the way, there were aspects of the lessons i got confused by, and i had to take a step back. i had felt like i wasn't meant to code, so i went on hiatus. still, i kept up with the TA's in the Google groups in case i decided to return and continued with free courses on Codecademy & General Assembly so i didn't totally lose the understanding of what i learned.

i resumed my relationship with Skillcrush last year when i enrolled in the Break Into Tech blueprint. this is EVERY Skillcrush course offered, and although its costs is the equivalent of a month's rent in some cities (i did receive a $200 discount, which was very kind of them), it's actually a far better deal than on-site boot camps. you receive lifetime access to the lessons. i like this much better than the 3-month blueprints; i felt rushed in those, which might be why i never finished them (coupled with my confusion in PS and JS). you can customize your track (either Design or Development, or both), and you receive counseling sessions with the TA's regarding job hunting, areas of concentration, etc. it's been a year since i signed up for the Break Into Tech blueprint and i feel so much more confident about my abilities than previously; i completed Phase 1 and am working through Phase 2. i finished JavaScript(!) and now can say that i comprehend the basics of it. i have my own portfolio online with my lovely Skillcrush projects on display (and others to add once they're completed). sure, there will be times when i don't understand something but rather than get frustrated and give up i now have better strategies for dealing with anxiety and coder's block. and when i think i might be asking silly questions, i'm reassured that it's ok because everyone else is in the same position.

i suppose the only real con i have is that Skillcrush doesn't provide career placement services; they tell you where to look for jobs and what you need to do to land them, but it would be great if they could actually recommend you/place you in a position (especially since a lot of people taking the blueprints are either out of work, looking for remote work, or maybe having difficulty landing interviews for various reasons). i know they're a small company, so it could be awhile before this ever happens but it's something i've mentioned to the TA's.

i know it might be awhile until i actually get a foot in the door of the tech world, but i really want to thank Skillcrush for encouraging me not to give up on coding even when i felt it wasn't right for me.

I'm currently doing the Break Into Tech program (a more comprehensive program than just web development) and it's been a great experience so far. The content is explained very clearly and you get to set your own pace which is fantastic for me. I can slow... Read More down one week and then totally triple the pace the next week. What I love most though are the tasks we have to complete as we progress. This really gives you a chance to practice what you've learned, forces you to grow where necessary and gets you into the great habit of being a problem solver. I really do feel that if I get through the program, I will have all the relevant skills to work in this field. I have tried unpaid programs before, most of them aren't bad. It's just that this one is very well-structured and broken down into manageable chunks. The enthusiasm of the instructors and the whole community is also contagious. So no complaints here. I think it does take a lot of self-drive and the relentlessness to persist even when the going gets tough so I can't say it's for everyone but if you are thinking about coding and coming from a non-technical background, I'd definitely recommend Skillcrush. For me, it's the most hopeful I have felt in a long time. I have not completed the program so I haven't secured a job as a consequence of this program. However, I am fully confident that when I'm done, Skillcrush will be a big help in my job search.
