I am back in school and had no idea of all the information, skills, languages ... technology I would be learning in a short amount of time. Whew!!! But, it is an amazing journey! I enjoy figuring things out and at Woz U I get plenty of opportunity to... Read More do that. However, I am never alone in that process. There are plenty of Mentors, Instructors, and other students capable, willing, and available to help you any time you shout help...
I am happy to have taken this time to advance myself and learn something totally new!!

Please avoid this company at all cost! Within the first week I realized this school was nothing but bs. They use curriculum from other free coding websites and sell it to you with absolutely no help learning the material at all. I asked multiple times... Read More to be removed school and the only response I got was scare tactics and manipulation. I was told by many people there that the second I signed my name I was committed to the loan in FULL. So regardless if i quit the first day or complete the course I would owe 100% of the loan. Which is not true! Later after finding my contract online re-reading my contract I could have but their financial person I spoke with dodged the question and even outright ignored phone calls and emails from me. After being scare and manipulate to just finish the course with the hopes I could get a decent job afterwards I finally graduated in 2018 and was told to contact the lady that help with finding jobs. Which basically ended up me sending about 5 email to her with NO response at all and after talking a supervisor I was told just to look on indeed. So here we are in the end off 2019 still no job a loan company harassing me for payment on a $12,220.34 loan I have no way of ever paying.

I was excited when a co-worker told me about Woz U. (Which is ran by Southern) I thought wow, if Wozniak is running it it's going to be top notch... I was misktaken. He's plastered his name on an existing school and I doubt he's even reviewed the UI.... Read More There are bugs in the system, lots of them. Cons: Always being logged out, right in the middle of reading or coding. No list of printable resources, if you want to print it out you're going to do it page by page. No way to just resume where you left off, have fun finding that page! The curriculum is out of order. Makes it hard to figure out what you have or haven't completed. Pros: Good material (seemingly up to date) The instructor lessons are recorded, you can access them anytime. MENTOR! My mentor is the best, I couldn't make it through without him. We meet weekly (via video conferencing) and chat via Slack as needed. The program is run through an accredit organization, so you can apply your pell grant and/or federal loans. Continuing education, you can come back later and learn additional skills at no additional charge - I'm not there yet but I hope it's all they promise.

The coursework started at the most basic principles of web development, increasing in complexity and difficulty in a structured and easy to follow system. Easily understood with the information from previous sections, the building knowledge and ideas... Read More open up into a broad range of conceptual iteration and comprehension. I definitely recommend this course for anyone looking to break into a new career field, or broaden their options within a similar field.

I have gone from having zero knowledge of programming, to being able envision a career as a programmer in a short period of time. This is a "GREAT" program, you get support, live interaction with the instructors, your own mentor, career placement and the program does not rush it's curriculum. I would recommend this program to anyone who is interested in a technology career.

Pros for Woz U University as a student has been the following:

I have had great opportunities to meet and connect my course and master mentor on a daily basis when I have issues with coding, assignment instructions, and software optimization.
Woz U has allowed me a direct and efficient path to developing skills in R and Python programming and hopefully, I can progress into more advanced and essential tools for the workplace.
I started as a student with my first course in DSO: Intro to Statistics on 3 June and up to the present date the challenges for me in coding in both R and Python have allowed me to strengthen an essential tool as a physicist that I have always lacked and that is the skills and mindset of software programming.

Cos for Woz U University as a student has been the following:

I was given a new master mentor early in the program after my first two weeks when that mentor left the program from my understanding and I was given a new mentor. Although my new mentor has shown better skills and programming experience plus coaching than my earlier mentor. It would be better for every student entering the program to be given a first-rate, top-notch mentor with strong programming skills, teaching strategies, and morale support starting from day one.
I would suggest that a strong 1 on 1 online review from a board of educators and instructors from Woz U interview each and every incoming and potential student to determine the current circumstances and reasons for that student entering the program. Provide more sophisticated resources in program coaching, teaching strategies, student support, and strong encouragement to help student morale in times of hardships or difficulties that may take place during a student progression through the program.

Any criticisms I have mentioned above is meant to encourage improvement in the strategical, pedagogical, and academic support for students attending Woz U. It would be fantastic to provide internship and research opportunities with professionals in the field in collaboration with other academic institutions, research organizations, and companies for resume enhancement when a student has a better chance of acquiring full employment even prior to final graduation.

Jesenia from admissions was my first contact when I was working as terrazzo finisher @ Apple Campus II in Cupertino, Calif. It wasn't even Woz-U at that time. But she always started our conversations with the same mantra: 'Are you still interested in a career in technology?' . After many times of layoffs/work stoppages in my trade, I finally said 'Yes'.
Since I've been enrolled at Woz-U, I have come to realize that the whole culture here is set up for success. There are so many layers of support. I speak with my mentor Rick Cohen on a weekly basis. He always makes himself available. The instructors put out daily workshops. Even if you can't attend thru Slack, students can still access those tutorials. Cassandra responded to a huge problem I had early in the course almost immediately.
This is why I'm bewildered reading these negative comments. #fullstackweb is another tool students can use to access mentors. Some of the best comments/suggestions come from students themselves. It is a community where everyone is willing to help each other. That's my experience. Maybe the haters aren't willing to do the work. Do they really think that a man of Steve Wozniak's stature would take the time to SCAM people?
