I’ve always had this dream of learning to code and understanding the ins and outs of what actually went on behind the scenes of my favorite games, websites, applications, etc… but since I didn’t “go to school for it” years ago, I never really envisioned... Read More chasing that dream in any capacity until earlier this year. The pandemic put a lot into perspective for me, including the importance of continuing my education and chasing my passions. I figured the only way to do this would be to go to school at night while working during the day, so I did… I started at Coding Temple with the hope of broadening my skill set and learning more about something I’d been curious about for so long. To keep a long story short, I graduated recently… it was one of the most challenging sprints I’ve ever been a part of but I’m incredibly proud to say I did it. I went from knowing absolutely nothing about programming to presenting a full-stack application built from scratch in front of a room of peers and staff members. So what’s my point? This experience continues to reinforce the idea that “the most difficult road oftentimes leads to the most beautiful destination.” This applies to everything… I’d love to challenge anyone reading this to give that thing you’ve always wanted to learn a little extra thought and really ask yourself, “why haven’t I started?” If it's related to coding, you've found the right place. You will get what you put into it without a doubt. Try not to let the fear of coming up short keep you from starting. If this review can get even a single person who is on the fence to actually go ahead and attend Coding Temple, that would be incredible. Do the things you want to do, people. It’s awesome…

Read More heard of Coding Temple, don't worry, neither had I when I decided, after a ton of research, to attend their Python+Data full time bootcamp in April 2021. At the time I had been doing self-study on Coursera and Codecademy for a couple months when I decided to attend a bootcamp. I was looking for real-time instruction (not just pre-recorded content) and I wanted a carefully thought out curriculum that reflected the stacks and skills potential employers were looking for I researched several bootcamps, but ultimately chose Coding Temple for the following reasons: #1: At the time I wasn't sure if I wanted to go into Data or into Software Dev, and Coding Temple's curriculum has a mix of both #2: By my count, their 10 week full time program includes 250-300+ hours of live (via Zoom) instructor lead content. #3: Their cohort sizes are small, averaging 12 students per cohort, which means way more one-on-one opportunities. #4: Lower tuition compared to many similar bootcamps out there. The day I sent in my deposit for Coding Temple was simultaneously one of the most exciting and most stressful days! Had I made the right choice to go with this program that most people I asked had never heard of? Answer: Choosing Coding Temple turned out to be the BEST decision! From the first day of class, I loved every minute of my experience, was sad when it was over and HIGHLY recommend this program to anyone looking to launch a career into the software dev / data field. While the bootcamp is--as you would expect from the word "bootcamp"--an intense and time-consuming 10 weeks, it was SO fulfilling and so much fun! Of course it was challenging and I had my moments of struggle, like when trying to grasp to concept of Object Oriented Programing made me cry. Coding Temple Staff were great. My main instructor Brian and teaching assistant Kevin were great! They know "all the things" but are simultaneously able to boil down complex topics into concepts that noobs like me can understand. They teach with limitless patience. They watched me struggle thru simple python problems, but were always helpful and supportive. Nicole is the student experience coordinator, but I like to think of her as the Coding Temple "cruise director." She was always there to talk to if I had concerns, for those times I was struggling to learn a concept in class, and also for the exciting times! It was nice to feel like there was a person who I could reach out to for any reason at all. Finally, Marlene is the career coach and, boy is she a great resource! I joined a bootcamp because I wanted to make a career transition from a non-tech field. I've never been super awesome at the job hunt and self-promotion type stuff. Marlene is there to provide tons of guidance on how to approach your job search, how to answer interview questions, how to set up your Linkedin and personal Portfolio. I think without Marlene helping me in the job search journey I'd be totally lost! My only caveat about Coding Temple is this: While the curriculum we covered in class was exactly true to advertising (aka: the topics we covered were exactly as they were outlined in the week-by-week course description in their marketing materials), in my opinion its a bit of a stretch to call the program "Python + Data Science", because the curriculum is a little weak on the Data Science portion. The only data-specific part of the curriculum consists of 1 week on Numpy/Pandas/Matplotip and 1 week on SQL. We did not cover any statistics or machine learning topics, which seem to be cornerstones to a lot of Data Science jobs. The rest of the curriculum was pretty much all Software Dev topics and projects. In my opinion, if you know for sure that you want to go into data science, the curriculum as it was during my cohort may not be the best fit for you. But, if--like me--you are going into a bootcamp undecided as to if you want to be a Developer or a Data Analyst / Scientist, then Coding Temple is good in that it gives you a taste of both... its just that the Software Dev taste is bigger. In summary, Coding Temple was a fantastic experience and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to go into software development! Putting down a big chunk of money on a program like this is stressful, but I have absolutely no reservations or regrets about spending the money to attend this program. I feel like my life is now slit between BCT--before Coding Temple--and ACT--After Coding Temple. Looking forward to my future as a python developer!

Read More you for a career in web development or data science and supporting your job search. The instructors and TAs know their stuff, and the curriculum is strong and up-to-date. Career support is robust, and they work hard to foster a sense of community among the students.

This has been indeed one of the best choices I have ever made, the lessons are amazing and the instructors are really well prepared and literally hold your hand until the last day. My experience at Coding Temple was very positive - I thought they had a well-rounded approach to teaching me and my cohort the technical and non-technical sides of learning how to code and transitioning into a career. I highly recommend it for those interested... Read More in software engineering, especially if you don’t have any coding experience! Pros: + Supportive staff to help you learn, navigate job searching and pull through the boot camp ++ My instructor Joel and TA Terrell were very patient and committed to helping me & my cohort understand the content. As long as you are also patient and committed to the process (whether that’s trying to debug your code, figuring out a solution for your problem, understanding a confusing concept), they are there to do it with you! ++ Nicole (student relations manager) and Marlene (career coach) emphasized that they are there to help you succeed and I felt that through & through! Nicole has a great network of guest speakers, and I love that she brought in speakers who addressed imposter syndrome and the mental health aspects of job searching. Marlene was incredibly helpful in navigating the job search and networking. I was able to find a job during the bootcamp, and even though it wasn’t related to SWE or data analytics, Marlene helped me through the hiring process, negotiating and networking! The conversations I had with Nicole, Marlene and the guest speakers were very empowering and continue to stick with me after the bootcamp. + Energetic culture - active slack channel, extra activities (game night, algorithm night with prizes), cool gather towns + Variety of resources - TAs, guest speakers, post-bootcamp job and interview support + Variety of hands-on projects for software engineering part of curriculum ++The curriculum covered a good variety (Advanced Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Flask, React & Data Analytics) of topics so I feel like I got just enough exposure to understand the basics and dive deep into a project at the end of each week. Cons: - Curriculum could be more thorough for data analytics (i.e. algorithms, hands-on projects) -- During the data analytics part of the course, there were a couple days when class ended early and we mainly covered how to code for data analytics (Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib). It would've been nice to cover different algorithms/machine learning concepts.

Simply put, you will not find a better place to gain a foundation for coding than at Coding Temple. What makes this place so special is the staff and crew. They truly make you feel as though you aren't alone and that any problem can be solved with just... Read More a little teamwork. No task seemed too daunting, and there was always someone available to help you out when you're stuck. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Although I've only recently graduated from the program, I am happy to say that my experience with Coding Temple was phenomenal. Every single staff member I've met with genuinely enjoys programming and only wants that for each and every student coming... Read More through the program. Particularly Joel and Terrell (dynamic duo) take ample time in making sure students understand what's going on. Not only that, the class sizes are small ~10-12 people so it's easy to speak up if you're having trouble with something. If anyone is taking a leap of faith by switching careers or even might've been in the programming industry for a while, Coding Temple definitely has the flexibility and vision to cater to all experience levels. They understand that some people just need to take extra time in order to understand different concepts and work tirelessly to provide avenues for everyone to succeed. Whether you decide to try to solve your bugs on your own or you need some extra pointers from any of the great TAs, Coding Temple walks with you in whatever direction you choose to go. If you're coming from a background of programming and are looking for bootcamps that might supplement that part of your education, I would say coding temple is definitely more suited for those that don't have that sort of background. They really teach things from the ground up and the curriculum is set up in a way that allows one to build up fundamentals. However, if you're like me and coming from a background in healthcare and biology, the curriculum allowed me to really wrap my head around all of the concepts. Coding Temple's curriculum definitely moves at a quick pace, but they also have enough time for students to catch up on assignments as well as rest in between tough weeks. (Looking at you React). One last note about the curriculum, it's heavily focused on Python and Javascript. If python is not what you're looking for, then I'm sure there are other programs out there for whatever programming language you're interested in (but if you're looking to go into data why wouldn't you learn python). As was mentioned before, coding temple walks with whatever you decide is YOUR direction. If you're unmotivated of where you want to go or if you're constantly leaning on the instructors and staff, it might be difficult to understand all of the concepts and ultimately stand on your own two feet. It would have been really easy for me to complete the assignments receive a grade from the instructors and then go about my day, but I believe coding temple is there to give you the push forward when you need it. As with anything worth fighting for, you reap what you sow. That phrase is cliché for a reason... because it's the truth. Since I've just recently graduated it's difficult to say what the job assistance portion of the program is like, but Marlene has already given us the rundown of what's expected from us and how to really put in the work to be stand-out applicants. I will amend this portion of the review after I've signed my offer.

I really feel like there was a fire under my butt going into the search for boot camps. I had lost my job during the covid era and knew that I needed something else quickly but also knew that this could be a great opportunity. I had thought about boot... Read More camps before but looking through the options was at best confusing. Coding Temple did a great job of explaining what they offered and even what I was likely looking for. It helped a lot that they had a virtual open house with people who were thinking about joining to get their questions answered. I'm glad that Coding Temple was responsive and knew what to offer me based on what I wanted. I'm glad that they worked so hard to make sure that I knew what I was getting going into it. I'm glad I went through the Coding Temple boot camp. All in all, I do wish that every little thing in the curriculum was catered to exactly what I wanted to learn. After getting that selfishness out of my head, I was so happy to get all the information; not just about language and syntax, but about all of the stuff surrounding coding that I didn't know I needed to know. The job support after the fact has been fantastic and I wouldn't change a thing. In a perfect world there would be companies that researched boot camps, rather than us having to do all the work searching. Alas, the individual does have to do a lot of work to find the right fit in the right company.
