Coding Temple

PROS: what I loved about the school is how they give you the material you need to succeed. They have a lot of code along videos that are very informational. If you can't figure something out, they encourage you to google it and if you are still stuck... Read More always reach out. The slack channel was a benefit as well because you have other students that can help out if you are stuck and if you just have a quick question, you can ask it there instead of having to wait for an appointment. Love the technical/Code wars workshops, helped out a lot with learning algo and knowing what to expect in interviews. The alumni coming back and speaking was a plus, helped me to keep moving forward CONS: In self-pace will be good for students to know their exact deadline to complete course. I was switched over from part-time program to self-pace and was never told I still had the same deadline to complete the course. Only found out because I tried to log in and do some videos and I had to message Blair and find out my time expired. They added time to my cohort but was frustrating to have to find out by trying to do homework. Better at communicating with students on who to reach out too and who will grade our assignments. I had times where I wanted to move on to my next assignment but didn't want too if my previous assignment needed to be worked on, but sometimes was waiting a whole week for an assignment to get graded. I know the school is busy but a thing that can be improved is the staff knowing when someone is close to being done so the transition to the Alumni area is smoother. I graduated but still have not received my certificate and not sure when I will.

Coding Temple is as great as the reviews say. The instructors and staff are very helpful, very nice. The recorded videos for the Self-paced program are fun to watch. Many are about 15 mins or less, some are more than that, and they are really fun to go... Read More through.

I had a great experience at Coding Temple. I completed a full-time 10 week immersive course and it was tough. Lot of cancelled plans and late nights working. But if you feel ready, I would highly recommend this bootcamp! I don't think there's ever a "perfect"... Read More time to make a decision like this. You just have to take risks sometimes and trust yourself. If I could go back, I would have prepared more. They suggest 2 weeks to complete all of the prework assignments and I only had like 6 days. I didn't finish it all, and HTML/CSS is the last of prework, but you start it on Day 1 of class. I wish that Ripal (admissions) had suggested I was enrolled in the cohort after. However, he was super nice during the admission process and granted me a $500 scholarship which was unexpected and very appreciated. The reason I bring this up is because I asked Nicole (student advisor) if I could re-enroll into the next cohort coming up. I just felt so behind and lost in HTML/CSS by day 3. She gave me the support I needed and pushed me to hang in there until the next week which was Python. If I still felt lost, we could arrange re-enrolling and waiving the re-enrollment fee. That said a lot to me about Coding Temple. That they are going to work with you if you ask for help! Class over zoom was great. I had to figure out how to learn again. You don't need to type along during class because it's all recorded and your night is going to be re-watching the day's lecture over and over. I took notes to make sure Python concepts stuck in my head. And found youtubers who explained things in different ways. Derek and Lucas were fantastic instructors, I definitely miss seeing them every day. It was a serious challenge getting everything turned in, doing codewars, attending guest speakers, scheduling after-hours help, and just living your life. But once it's over you are exposed to pretty much everything you need to know for web development. I have assignments that I will definitely come back to tweak and work on. After graduating, you get alumni support via slack forever. Marlene (career coach) and Nate (alumni tech instructor) are fantastic. They so work hard to help you succeed. There are tech workshops for coding interview challenges and job search support workshops where other alumni share their tips for getting a job offer. I like knowing that I could come back in a year or two to sharpen my skills or revamp my resume. I chose this bootcamp because it's one of the shortest timeframes out there and they offer a money back guarantee. It's real - but it's pretty hard to achieve IMO. Just know that while there are horror stories out there about some bootcamps, Coding Temple is legit. It's very expensive, but I feel proud that I did it. I will never regret investing in an education.

The course is rigorous but you learn a lot. Both instructors were very helpful and assisted as much as they could without spoon feeding you the answers. Coding Temple was a great school! I learned a lot in my 10-week program. It was very challenging. You will put in a lot of hours outside of class, but it is really worth it. You will be expected to put in the work and effort, but they provide a lot of support and help for you when you need it. Everyone is easily accessible, and they actually respond to you when you reach out to them. They provide a ton of job support after you graduate. You have interview support, job search support, resume writing support, weekly coding post-grad class, and continued coding challenges to help you stay up to date on your coding skills.

Disclaimer: When reading bootcamp reviews, remember that its graduates are motivated to leave higher reviews because it gives credence to their graduating institution. Path: Full-time, 10-weeks (May '22) Review (main): Disclaimer out of the way, this bootcamp is really quite good. The instructor I had was knowledgeable and patient. The program is generally well organized, meaning you're unlikely to fall out due to technical problems or confusion over what's due when. Despite getting through a monstrous amount of material, they avoid over-stressing their students by keeping things "casual". However, don't expect miracles. If you've never touched code before, at the end of the course, you'll still only have 10 weeks of experience. Basically, you'll get an introduction to a lot of different things and be asked to produce working code that is similar to what is presented (hard enough for the period given). I do believe that anyone who graduates this course will be capable of functioning in a web-developer and even full-stack role, but mileage will vary with prior experience. Those with prior experience will have an easier time and those without will struggle at times. But there's no graduating with honors, so what you'll exit with will be the same in either case, but there will *probably* be a difference in quality of project work and understanding of material. Sometimes that doesn't matter for getting a job. Summary: If you're looking for a bootcamp and you'd prefer not to put the extra months into it, this is a great program to consider (considering the cons). Ask: If this review has been helpful, mark it so (if available) Pros: - Knowledgeable & capable instructors (disclaimer: I only experienced one) - Course reflects current trends in tech needs and (like the industry) is being continuously updated - Practical and one-on-one help with resume, negotiation, and "what do I want to do with this?" guidance (to some extent) - Not overly stressful environment Cons: - The career coach is ferocious and obviously motivated, but there's absolutely no interfacing with interested companies. All applications are on you, which is hard to do while in the program due to how busy it keeps you. They hold out on the job board and alumni network until after you've graduated, which I haven't done yet so the result there may drive my rating up or down. - Few of, if any, of the instructor’s aids have any industry experience. I'm unclear on how many or how much the instructors have. This doesn't mean they aren't knowledgeable (they are), but if you have a bit of experience and are wanting guidance on not just how to code, but how to code well, that's very hard to come by. This generally only comes into play when you're seeking beyond associate-level employment, however, which you won't be doing. - I was displeased at the format of some of the "workshops." CT (appropriately) tries to instill problem solving skills by having you solve a minimum number of coding problems. They offer help with workshops, but these aren't instructive workshops, they are instead in the format, "Here is the answer to one. Okay, next." This format doesn't help an individual learn HOW to solve problems. My personal belief is that the time would be much better spent on methodology and tips and tricks.

I had a great time during my experience at Coding Temple, if you get Brian as your teacher consider yourself lucky. He's a great teacher, very patient and can teach difficult concepts to a brick wall. It is a lot of work, so make sure you have the time.... Read More You'll have homework (nearly) every night on top of a full day of class, and your weekend will be filled with a project covering all the topics of that week. I had a little programming experience going in, self taught mostly but nothing too special so the first few weeks went pretty well, but it quickly jumped in complexity and I found myself studying and programming late into the night. Overall, I learned more in these 10 weeks than I ever could have on my own and I'm glad I was lucky enough to be in a position to take this course.

I worked in Mortgage Lending before studying to work in tech. I chose the self paced course because it would allow me to keep my job while I was studying. The self paced course includes videos to guide you through the material and instructors on standby... Read More for private one on one sessions to go over any questions on homework or other concepts. By the end of the program I felt like I had what was expected for an entry level position as well as the drive to continue to learn further. The instructors make it clear that the biggest skillset you can have is the drive to continue learning more as the industry is ever evolving. Throughout my learning I had access to ample learning materials and competent instructors which made the learning process engaging. I could have learned how to do many of these things on my own but I am glad I chose to go to Coding Temple instead, having a community of coders alongside me was a lot of fun and I even made a few friendships from the other students in my self paced cohort. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone on the fence.

Read More full-time/in-person courses but CT also offers instructor support in their Self-Paced program. The instructor was extremely helpful when I ran into issues or needed a bit more explanation on various things we were learning. The assignments were engaging, dare I say FUN and challenged you to truly apply what you were learning in the course. Once you finish the bootcamp, you then have a whole new support system in their Alumni team who help with resume building, application processes, and interview support - both technical and in general.
