Green Fox Academy

I was trying to find a complex course that would teach me enough knowledge to become a junior developer and help me get a job in IT. Both of my conditions were fulfilled. This course is well structured, I have learned: - basics of object oriented programming... Read More - how to make a small web application in Java using spring boot and thymeleaf - how to figure out my own solutions and work more independently - working with git and github - how to work in a small team - develop larger strategy game in C# during the project phase (back end) - how to give constructive feedback - how to prepare for the interview I met new people and everyone was very nice. Even though it was a fast and hard journey, if you are willing to put enough effort to study and prepare continuously, it will pay off and it can really make a change in your career. Thanks to this course I am now working for Accenture as a Junior software developer. I really recommend this course and if you have the time, take the full-time course over the weekend one. I personally started the weekend one and after a month I quit my job and switched to the full-time so in my experience it was better when I could focus only on the course and you can start your IT career in half the time. :)

I wont deal with the details. A lot has been said. After all I am happy that I took the course. And I also got a job . I was for 2 days in a company having my knowledge tested and they were surprised to see what I know and were saying that a university... Read More graduate applicant, unless he did programming in his free time, would not be able to code such an app as I did. And this is also a credit go GreenFox. I saw reviews being not happy about not-experienced mentors. My point of view: it makes no sense to employ expert programmer in the first part of the course to teach you what an array is, how if else works etc. A fresh graduate from the course will teach you the basics just fine. In the beginning of the course it may feel different to you. But at the end you will share my view. Bottom line is - in my case - once the course got more complex my mentor was a real expert having a very deep knowledge and he was willing to help everyone asking for help. And most importantly he would help just enough so that it would be you who cracks the problem. Sometimes this caused a lot of frustration over not being able to crack it. But sometimes trying is also the goal in the learning process. Curicculum is relevant and the technology I studied is used in my job as dev. Would I do the course again? Sure because it worked for me!

I did the 5-month long online training in English, and it was amazing. The mentors are great, always there to help you understand and make you move forward if you get stuck on something. After the training I felt ready to take up a job as a software developer.... Read More It taught me the languages, the tools, the environment, the mindset, really just about everything. While it is pretty intensive and you have to follow the pace, you don't need any prior knowledge in programming to succeed. GFA also offers some preparation to do before starting the course, which helps a lot. If this is what you are looking for, go for it.

The course focus both on hard and soft skills and despite my expectations I found the soft skills part very usefull. The hard skills part is very well structured from the basics to programming in a team. The teachers were very helpfull and able to answer... Read More our questions in fact anytime no matter the lesson is over for that day. But be prepared that it is very time consuming I spent about 10 hours a day studying. On the other hand if you like it, it will be pleasure to spend your time this way. And I have met really a lot of amazing people and it was pleasure and national holiday for me to cooperate with them. I enjoyed the course.

I started the full-time course in March 2020 and successfully graduated in July 2020. There were three parts. Foundation phase, where we learned the foundations of programming, then orientation phase focused on web application development and then project... Read More phase where we put our gained skills to a test when we worked on a larger project in small teams (5-6 people). I was surprised how broad the topics we learned were. Not only did we learn the core language and some frameworks, but also databases, version control (git), team work (agile - scrum), some basic dev-ops (we deployed our code on a live server), ... you name it. Also throughout the course, we had several soft-skills trainings, which helped us to hone our presentation skills and helped us to deal with anxiety and stage-fright better.
The team at Green Fox Academy is really friendly and helpful, and when you aproach them, they will go out of heir way to help you solve your problem. The mentors were very knowledgable, helpful and friendly as well.
Overall the course was great. Not perfect, but what is :)

I am pretty sure that five years ago, this was a great course. The founders identified a real demand in the market for developers, and a small group of dedicated, experienced people did create a great course to help talented individuals with no previous... Read More background in coding kickstart their career as developers.
But then they decided, that they need to grow. And as the organization grew, they were unable to maintain the high standards they had for the recruitment of both of their own stuff, and potential students as well. The fact that new players emerged on the market made it even more difficult for them.
As of now, the only department that is still doing their job as well, as in the begining is marketing. Which is double whammy, because it means that they can reach and communicate their message and promises very well, and to many people, but then are unable to deliver on them. The mentors are in general vastly underqualified, some of them never even had any real-life job, only completed the same junior developer course we did (And I advise you not to).
Of course it is not a surprise that they stayed at Green Fox as a mentor, because the biggest Achilles heel (or rather and Achilles leg..) of the whole course is job support and placement at partner companies.The number of partner companies they claim to have at any pre-course event is immeasurably higher, than those who are there to hire, or even consider hiring people. Most of the opportunities are not developer jobs, and even from these few developer positions, a great deal is actually requiring a different technology then what was used during the course. Do not misunderstand me, I am not against learning new tools and languages. But situations like this even more emphasize, that Green Fox is not monitoring the changes in demand on the market correctly. If they only have a few partners, why dont they cover their specific needs better? They could probably attract more companies, if they did.

To sum up; The surroundings are great, the people are cool and friendly and helpful, the dogs are nice. The only thing missing is the actual product you paid almost 4000 € for – the junior developer course provided and managed by experts that will get you a job. If only they dared to stay small (no need to have multiple classes, when you do not have enough proper mentors) and reacted to the changing circumstances better, this could still be a course I would gladly recommend to anyone. But they did not, so I can not.

What I consider important to say about this course at the begin is that it was not exactly what I expected. It was much more demanding - and in general not only this course, but also the subsequent development in the IT field is extremely demanding on... Read More self-discipline. And even though I expected the course to be challenging, I probably didn't expect such demands to be placed on me. Sometimes it was a struggle with the Green Fox system, which was in some situations really fossilized. At the same time, it is necessary to realize that once a person completes this course, they compete in the labor market with students of IT fields, which was very difficult for me to imagine (as a person who studied a field very distant to IT). But after completing the course, it became reality.

The course offers learning exactly with the technology that is actually used in IT on a daily basis, which is without a doubt the biggest advantage of the course. The next biggest advantage for me was the development of my own personality, my personal growth and learning to work with myself even in highly stressful situations.

From zero to hired as junior developer. Got job literally 4 days after my after my final exam. Sure there is room for improvement...but it is everywhere right?
Prepare in advance, study hard, don't act like A-hole, most importantly don't sh*t yourself... Read More and you will do great.

Back in 2017 I'm quite sure it was a great course, maybe even in 2018, but nowadays the company has grown tremendously with the same mindset and it couldn't follow the changes in the industry.
The first 2 modules are quite OK, you can really learn a lot... Read More throughout these modules, especially if you have a senior developer as a mentor (specialized in this technology, sometimes sadly not). It gives you a quite good understanding with the basics, and with a framework. Yes, the lectures consist mostly random youtube videos, but I guess many times in life you have to watch those as well.
Project phase is also very dependent on the mentor, you can get Junior Software Developer as a mentor, and you are basically left to your own devices as he can barely help you, or you get a quite good mentor and you still learn a lot. Very luck dependent.

As for the worst part: JOB FINDING (are they even looking?)
Sales doesn't or barely communicates about the job finding events (hackathon, tech-talent speed date, etc.) or about jobs overall. They promise that a lot of companies are interested, but somehow only 4-7 relevant companies do come. This is for 35+ students, so you can imagine how many people will actually get developer jobs by the end of 3 months (which is actually a lot of time without pay)... They promote (a lot) of sales-tech kind of jobs, which is basically useless, and for actual developer jobs it's quite obvious that most tech companies are either not interested, or the price is just not worth it for them. As of 1 month after graduation, about 1 or 2 people got jobs (not developer) and maybe 2-3 was called in for interviews.

I am absolutely satisfied with the whole course. I recommend it to everyone who thinks about learning programming and getting a job as quickly as possible.
