"Really valuable"
I think the whole experience for me has been great! I've been reading some of the negative feedback here and I was a bit shocked honestly. Such a different experience! I started this course during Corona, not having a lot of programming skills, I read... Read More
Since we started during the corona time, we did it from home, so that kind of was a plus for me. Saves travelling time :) So we would have 1 or 2 lectures a day about the subject of that day and the rest of the time you would work on the reader that they created and you could get help from teachers or TA's. Now I didn't need a lot of help, but I do understand, especially since it was in an online environment, that if you need some more help, then yeah you might have to wait a bit. (and then it might feel like you are just all alone, since you're not in a classroom and nobody is there for you!) They would try to help people at the same time with similar issues, or plan in an extra lecture to explain some things if lot's of people were still struggling with it. I feel like they definitely tried to listen to and do something with the students inputs. (Every Friday they asked us to fill in a feedback form.)
About the part where they help you get a job, I understand that people are a bit let down by it. Even though I got hired because of one of their hiring events, that was the only one they organised since I finished the bootcamp 3 months earlier. They do help you out with writing CV, cover letter, setting up linkedIn, you can request practice (tech) interviews or anything else you really need. But yeah, you do have to do most of the work yourself. Just like during the bootcamp, Codaisseur is there to help you out, guide you, but you have to do it yourself eventually. And yeah obviously Codaisseur is trying to earn money, but so are you. You are investing in your future right? You want to get that job somewhere.
Now because of Corona, I'm sure it's a lot harder to get a job for anyone really. I think you also just need to be a bit lucky as well. You can expect to hear a lot from companies that they don't want to hire you because "lack of experience". Which is okay. Yeah, it's only been 11 weeks. They won't hire you purely on experience, they will hire you because you are a great fit for their company. (You check their boxes so to say) But those 11 weeks do show your future company, that you are able to learn new things in a fast pace, intensely and you are committed to it. Keep working on projects of your own after the 11 weeks, to show companies you want to keep learning and creating. That you can work independent as well!
Before Codaisseur I didn't really have an idea of what the programming world really looked like. Even though I did do some online course here or there. Thanks to this experience at Codaisseur I feel like I now know what I do and don't know, and I also see more clearly where I can go from here. That is one of the more valuable things I feel I've gotten out of this experience.

Hi there, Lisa here from the Recruitment team.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us.
First off, let me just say that I am sorry to hear about your experience here with us. We hold ourselves to very high standards, and our partner network has hired over... Read More
2020 has been a rough year for everyone, our students & graduates included. During the first lock-down, we saw a lot of companies here in the Netherlands issue a hiring freeze. Quite a number of our graduates, that were in their final rounds of interviews, were told that the position was closed, and we also had some alumni come back to us after their contracts weren't renewed.
Before the pandemic, our hiring rate was over 90%, but between March - June we saw that number drop to 60%.
I am very proud to say that since September our hiring rate has reached 90% again, and our most recent class to graduate has a 100% hiring rate! This just shows that companies in the Netherlands have realised that Junior Developers are needed now more than ever before. Our grads possess all the cutting-edge skills & knowledge to add value to a company from day 1.
I'd like to respond to some of your comments in the review, as they are very misleading and/or false.
We are very selective in our admissions process, only 30% of all applicants are accepted under our no cure - no pay model. During your admission interview, you showed great motivation, talent and grit and were accepted under this model.
This means that if you hadn't have graduated, or if you hadn't have found employment during the job search period, we would've waived all of your tuition fee.
''Unfortunately you only do receive the contract ...''---
After you pass the admission test and have been accepted, you receive your contract immediately. Our contracts are all in English, and we ask that you reach out to us if there is anything you are not sure about. *Only* after signing your contract will you receive the €800 invoice for the admission fee. Your contract is also always visible in your personal Codaisseur profile.
''You cannot get sick'' --
Since our course is fast-paced and intense if you miss more than 2 days ( for whatever reason; illness/personal issues etc) we evaluate whether or not you should repeat some parts of the course. This year, in particular, we've seen many students recourse because of illness/stress or personal issues.
Our goals are completely aligned, if you don't graduate or don't find a job then we waive all of your tuition fee! Our teachers and staff do everything within their power to help you learn and find a job.
You are correct when you say that you have to do all the hard work to find your dream job. We will never put you in a job, this is always up to the graduate to find the vacancies and companies they fit best with. However, we are with you the whole way, organising workshops, speed-dates, hiring events and much more. We are in constant contact with our hiring network. Very often we get requests from them looking to hiring a junior, and these leads are shared directly with our graduates.
Since September 2020 we have held six hiring events, with over 20 companies, which led to many graduates getting hired!
I can assure you that we have never sent anyone an invoice of 12k, asking them to pay it within one month. When our students find employment ( of their choice) then their employers start paying back the tuition fee in monthly instalments, usually over 24 months. On the same topic, to ease some of the pressure from our students studying with us during the lockdown, we gave out a €4000 discount on all tuition fee.
''...forced me to accept any job that came my way ' ... ' I did not have a single interview '' -
I am very curious how you managed to get a job offer since you did not have a single interview :)
We prepare you for a junior developer position. Once you graduate, it is up to you to find your own dream job. You will have all the necessary skills, knowledge and technology to successfully work at any company.
Any job offers that you were lucky enough to receive, can only have come from you having applied to that exact job and company ( and after successfully passing the interview rounds :) .
I would love to continue this conversation. We truly believe that feedback is the only way to grow! Send me an email and we can set up a phone call to discuss any other points you may have.
cheers,
Lisa

Quality / teachers
There were lessons and a reader to work with. I was very impressed with the reader. Well written and structured. The teachers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable; they will do their best to make you succeed. That said, at times it was hard to get help when you had a question - probably due to the online/corona situation. I believe this accessibility improved for the next groups. Towards the end the academy it felt a bit less ‘organized’.
Curriculum / reader
As a newbie to web-development, the amount of languages, frameworks and whatnot is overwhelming if not suffocating. You don’t have to worry about that. They check the flavor of the day and teach just that - as this will improve your changes on the job market. This obviously comes with a cost. In our class they skipped OOP for example.
Corona / online
11 weeks online. With tools like Discord, Slack and Zoom that is not really an issue. The dynamic is different, but they really did their best to make it lively.
Job-Guaranty / job search-support
Can’t say a lot about that. Before I joined the academy I already knew that I would pay the fee myself. I knew what the fee was, all was clear, and paid it straight after I graduated. I think it was a fair price. Found a job before the search officially started.
Amazing experience - recommended!

"predatory payment model - beware"
As a caveat to this review - my experience was in time of Corona, so likely any problems experienced at the academy are heightened due to the current circumstances.

A typical day at the academy goes as follows: 9:30 AM you log into discord and wait for a teacher to greet you - teachers swap in and out daily, and many times they seem to be ill-informed as to what you have and have not covered in days past. Typically there is a lecture from 10 - anywhere from 11:30, to sometimes 3:00 in the afternoon, with a lunch break in the middle. In the remaining time you are working through a "reader" - basically an online course that helps you progress through the material of the course. The end of the day is officially at 17:30-18:00, but it was common for me to continue coding until 20:00 - 21:00 to finish all of the coursework. Add this up daily over the course of 11 weeks, and what results is a grueling schedule.
The learning strategy championed by this organization seems to be: throw as much information at students as possible, and see what sticks. At the end of the day it is rather unrealistic that student progress from someone with no industry knowledge to a full-fledged full-stack developer over the course of 11 weeks. What results is a super accelerated curriculum, spending a couple of weeks on front end development, a couple of weeks on back-end development, and then creating projects putting these concepts to work. What's troubling is that each of these are rich and complex disciplines in and of themselves that take time to master. The idea seems to be: demonstrate as enough processes within development to get students through an interview, and them let them really learn what they're doing on the job.
The pace and intensity of the course means that, at the end of the day, many students fail. There are three exams over the course of the program, and failing an exam and a retake (which take place over the course of weekends) will get you kicked out of the program. The emphasis during the interview process is that students are supported if they fail to meet the requirements of the exam, but in practice, exams (which last two full days) and re-exams are taken back-to-back. According to the website, the graduation rate of students sits at 70 percent -- but from what I experienced during the academy the rate is much lower -- meaning the academy keeps the 800 euro admissions fee, but is no longer responsible for training the student. I was told during my exit interview that this was "part of their business model" -- the idea being that only students who are most likely to earn the company a commission (the 10,000 euro paid by the future employer) are worth their time.
Last thoughts: I attended this academy thinking that -- as described on their website -- their pricing model was intended to increase the accessibility of coding education. What I learned once attending was that the pressures of this model (students paying an 800 euro admission fee, future employers then paying for the bulk of the education costs, 10,000 euro) incentivise cutting their losses throughout the program: kicking students out rather than supporting them. At the end of the day, the posture seems to be: you are a product not a student.
TL:DR you pay 800 euro up front, but the academy quickly weeds out students over the course of the program. Officially they say their graduation rate is 70 percent, but from what I experienced while attending the academy, but these days it is much lower. If you are "released" during the course of the program, you will not receive your money back (as stipulated in their contract). I was informed during my exit interview that this process is "part of their business model".

"Huge hidden costs amidst the pandemic time"
Everything goes well until it doesn't. There are several things you should really pay attention to:
- There is no such thing as job guarantee. It's you yourself that will have to do everything you can to find a job. There's no such thing as Codaisseur's... Read More
Final lesson: if it's about the minimum cost (800e) that makes you tempted to join Codaisseur, think about what I said above. Perhaps considering borrowing money from someone else and join another bootcamp. Graduation from Codaisseur won't secure you extra credentials. There are so many more bootcamps out there that offer you the same and might not put you into a huge debt in this desperate time. Also, READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY. It's written with hidden traps.

Hi there, Lisa here from the Recruitment team.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us!

You are correct when you say that we are extremely selective for our no cure- no pay model. Here, our interests are completed aligned, meaning that if you don't graduate or don't find a job then we waive all of your tuition fee! This is the reason we have a 32% acceptance rate. We only select the best students for our course. If we accepted everyone into our course, including people who do not meet the minimum requirements, we would basically be shooting ourselves in our own foot, because they would never pass the assessment and would never get hired within our job search period.... therefore we would have to waive all their tuition fee and earn nothing!!
That doesn't make much sense, does it? :)
Our course is very intensive, and with our 'hands-on' learning approach, so you are correct when you say that you will not have hours and hours of lectures, like in a traditional university. Now, while I do feel that 'missing the whole day' sounds a bit exaggerated, I understand where you are coming from. The goal of this course is to get you job-ready. In any position you are hired for afterwards, you will never have someone sitting beside you the full day, explaining and teaching you everything. Part of the learning curve here with us is to 'learn how to learn', that is- follow the short lectures and live coding sessions from our expert teachers and developers and then try it yourself! This is the only way you will be ready for a full-time developer position when you graduate!
I would also like to address your point 7.
Under our no cure - no pay, if you do not graduate or do not find a job within the job search period then we waive ALL of your tuition fee. This is very clearly outlined on our website and in our contract. This is the same model we have been using for the past 5 years, with great success too!
Of course, there are some requirements for the students. One of these being that you need to apply to 6 jobs a week, with the guidance and support from our team. Before covid hit us, this number was 4 applications per week, but with our data, we have seen that students that applied to 6 jobs a week were a lot more successful at finding their dream job. As you can imagine, practice makes perfect! With every application and interview you have, you will gain valuable experience that will take you one step closer to signing a work contract. We also run workshops, coaching sessions and private 1:1's with graduates that need extra help with their CV, cover letters or interview skills. If we see that you need extra guidance or help, but are unwilling to attend, then we will schedule a phone call to see how we can better assist you.
You will never be fined for doing your best. You will never be fined for not picking up the phone. We do not fine students. Our interests are completely aligned, if you succeed and find a job, then we succeed! Otherwise, we waive all of your tuition fee.
During the lockdown, many companies did put out hiring freezes, and we did see our hiring rate drop during the summer because of this. We are extremely sorry that you did not find a job during the job search period with us. However, according to the contract you signed with us, we waive all of your tuition fee. Meaning that you receive 11 weeks of training & education, and months of coaching and mentoring for free.
Since September, we have seen our hiring rate climb fast, and if we look at the past 4 classes we have over a 90% hiring rate, with one class reaching 100%! Just two months ago, we hit our record number of graduates hired in just one working week - 7 amazing grads signed to work with 7 fantastic companies!
After speaking to our vast partner network, we are confident that this number will only climb even fast over the next few months. Bringing our hiring rate to an all-time new high!
I would love to continue this conversation with you, please send me an email and we can set up a phone call!
Wishing you all the best,
cheers,
Lisa
