The content of the course is organised in a way that it fits individuals with either no experience in design or for career switching purposes. I am happy to have chosen the course and the amount of knowledge and skills I have build are exactly what I expected to be fully prepared as a UX designer when job hunting. The course is definitely worth it and compared to any university program, I am happy to have chosen it. My previous background was in Graphic Design and it was interesting and easy to follow the content and all the lectures and exercises!

I felt compelled to... Read More write a review close to the end of my UX Design course because UXDI has simply been the best I’ve encountered, and I don’t say that lightly. It should speak volumes that I’m already looking into other courses they offer - the course offerings and support are phenomenal, and as a career switcher with absolutely no design background, I can confidently say the UXDI takes the cake. If you’re on the fence about what UX Design school to go with, do yourself a big favor and go with UXDI. The format is such that you’re started on a 6-month schedule, but have the freedom and flexibility to shorten this timeframe or extend it, depending on your schedule/life obligations. The teaching is clear, concise, and fleshed out enough. The student community is virtual but extensive, and I’ve had the good fortune of meeting fellow students all across the world, just a Slack message away, to offer and receive support and help when things get tricky. They offer connection with excellent mentors in the industry, if you choose, along with regular webinars on various UX-related subjects. Opportunities to have your projects constructively assessed abound. At the end, you’ve got an exam/university-affiliated diploma to call yours. I have yet to access the job support, but I don’t doubt that’ll be terrific, too. Last, but not least, the student support team at UXDI was the true highlight for me - I’ve never felt more supported in a study course in my life. With the zero design experience I had, I had quite a few questions for the team and connecting with them was a breeze. Friendly, genuine, and able to make this noob feel encouraged. I’ll call out Eoghan Walsh and Kelly Igoe as rock stars here! Those two deserve a pay raise. All this to say, don’t second guess it. Go with UXDI.

The curriculum is very practical and follows a timeline that mirrors a real world design challenge. This course provides exactly the right amount of theoretical knowledge to get you in a great position to get your next UX role - not too much information just for the sake of it, but covering all aspects that you’ll need in real world application and... There’s great support from staff available on their slack channel Monday - Friday or from other students 24/7, and loads of live seminars giving feedback on work before you submit it, or from professionals on specific topics. Only negative is I wish there was more content on accessibility, as this is something I ended up teaching myself as it’s such a crucial part of the design process, so I was disappointed not to see that.

Pros: - Self-pace: You have complete freedom to control the time frame. For my academic year, there is no penalty if you delay to submit your assignment or delay to take the exam. - Good support: You will be invited to a Slack channel that is dedicated... You can ask any type of questions, e.g. assignment, career, feedback for portfolio. - Responsive and knowledgeable staff: The members of staff in the Institute are quite responsive. Unless it is public holiday / sick leave, they reply your questions pretty quick within 1-2 hours if they are not extremely complicated. - High transparency: I know who to go to for when I have particular area of questions, e.g. career, exam, events. - Great events: The institute invites experts to talk about the UX industry and the events are quite interactive which allow participants to ask questions. Cons: - Outdated course materials: Most of the materials are related to the topic of UX but the software demonstration on the module about prototype is out of date. I took the course in 2021 and the demo was shown on a software in 2018 version. I struggled a lot as a beginner as the software's feature, interface and functions have changed A LOT. I ended up self-taught everything from Youtube and with endless experiments. Technologies have advanced so quickly that the Institute should keep up the trend. - No 1:1 mentor: It is good to have the Slack Channel to discuss issues but no one are dedicated to answer your questions. If you want to have a person to guide and teach you through the projects, I recommend you to hire a mentor outside the Institute. - Little guidance: The assignment were scored simply with pass/fail. I wish there would be someone talked to me about what I needed to improve. - Too little project: I wish the course could be more intensive, like having 2-3 projects which last for a year to build up my portfolio. The course only requires students to complete 1 project, which I don't think this will increase too much employability in the job market. It really rely on students' motivation. (Actually, it is two sides of the same coin - You could say the course was easy to finish because the course is not intense.)
