The hard skills that I have in data analytics were fined tuned as I moved through the Academy assignments. I have to admit that I hit many roadblocks in studying but the mentor resources that are available gave me the support and confidence I needed to reassure me that I could do it. I am so appreciative of the work that the instructors, my peers and the mentors provided and I hope to be an influence and shoulder to lean on for any future student of Data Science that may need it. It was okay. I think there are better options. The thing is, with coding, you'll be learning the same content no matter where you go, more or less. Not everything is a "get what you pay for" experience, at all. Not even close. Woz-u does explain to you... Read More what you're doing, instead of just telling you what to do, which is all you might get from YouTube tutorials and such. Honestly, I don't see why one wouldn't just pick up a text-book. I guess the function of boot-camps are to distill text-book material into more hands-on, project-like, material, but I really think you could just get away with a couple text-books and some YouTube tutorials, and reading what entry-level positions are calling for on their descriptions.

One option is to go to community college for 2 years, and during that time get proficient in: Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and SQL, in that order, through something like Codecedemy.com or Coursera.com. Work hard, and smart. Do the interview set of questions on LeetCode.com. Build a portfolio on GitHub. Upload 1-2 projects for each language. You can find project ideas on google. Then, boom. In two years you've become more than qualified for any entry level position. This is what I'm up to now.

That being said, if you decide to sign up for Woz-U, you won't ultimately be wasting your money. I have not done any other certificate course so I can't compare. The fact that you can learn other languages they offer is a plus, and is something you will in fact need to do during your career. I don't think they offer Python for web development though. The fact that I couldn't sign up for the Data Science courses with my Web Dev membership was disappointing. They only teach you the basics, but that's really all you need before venturing out on your own. I do wish they gave you resources to excel, though. I wanted to get into more complex CSS and stuff. They didn't have job support when I signed up, but it looks like they do now, so it looks like the only resource you'll need besides Woz-U is LeetCode. Although it's good to use many more resources than these.

The Steve Wozniak endorsement is cheesy as hell, as he has no actual involvement in the company. NAMING a company after someone who's simply ENDORSING you is incredibly weird, and turns me off. If I could turn back time I'd just do the option I listed above, but I really do like the idea of Woz-U and IT CERTAINLY HELPED ME ENTER THE FIELD AND FIND SOMETHING THAT I THOROUGHLY ENJOY, possibly because of the inclusion of projects.

Woz U has a people-centric approach, every individual i came into contact with was readily available to see that I was getting the most out of the program. Before Woz U I spent my years self-teaching myself security skills, challenging myself to learn... Read More quickly and think abstractly. Meeting those challenges required preparedness and constant vigilance. If you are an autodidact you must know that developing cyber skills is not a one-and-done date, it takes commitment and tremendous effort to keep up with the development of new security technologies. I was tired of sifting through misleading information and I wanted more education, I wasn't able to find the information I wanted to learn in traditional education. Through the entire Cyber Security program at Woz U I was guided by my instructors and mentors with direction and structure that i needed to develop new skills. You feel apart of a team and you see how what you learn is applied in a real world environment. I have spoken for years to college recruiters who were trying to sell me their programs. Nearly all of them offered nothing of interest. If I could teach a class without opening the text book, I had no interest in paying to take the class. What's worse,... Read More none of the schools I spoke to were offering programs with math and science courses. When I finally found an offer for a degree program that could benefit me, I leaped at the chance. Sadly, that college looked at my prior education and waved me out of any math and science requirements, and wouldn't let me take them voluntarily on my student loans. Once I graduated with a Software Development degree, I realized I still had too little hands-on experience to get a job. This is where the idea of a "boot camp" or other post-graduate program became necessary. When I signed up for Woz U, the first class I has was in Statistics, the exact class that would have greatly benefited me during my college studies, but when I wasn't allowed to take. I enjoy math, but knew little about statistics. From the beginning, I found myself challenged. Everything was explained clearly, and a quiz with nearly every step of the module helped solidify each page. I enjoyed the assignments, where I created reports and spreadsheets that put the information I had learned to work. I even created a spreadsheet for my own references with the different equations and graphs we went over. I also had an adviser and a teacher during the module. One or both of them would be available every day. I didn't need them, but it was good to know they were there if I did. In the end, I feel that I greatly benefited from the module, and I look forward to learning more with each new module. I also look forward to having assistance at the end in getting a job in my new field. I see messages from other students regarding the job assistance, and it looks promising. I've always loved math, but have been terrible with people, so I'll definitely use this resource.

I would say the pros are all of the help offered by instructors, mentors, and other students. The lesson plans were very thought out and informative. The program I attended at Woz-U is Software Development, it took me about 1 full year to get done. I love the style of 1 mentor to 1 student style of education they use. The course work is great and easy for someone to understand, though most students... Read More who it is their first time of writing code may find it hard, but with the Woz-U slack community, it make it easier as their are other students you can share ideas with. The most interesting part of it is when you have a mentor to attend to you and point you in the right direction and you get to ask them questions whenever you are confused or needs to be encouraged or counseled. Writing codes isn't easy, so for the first month, it gets harder but after first month and with the help of the mentors it gets easier. I learnt a whole lot from this program and would advice a student who is in need of becoming a programmer to try it out.
