Avoacademy Foundations course is an intensive introduction to UX/UI design. You can begin on any given Monday. Learning material is self-guided and includes video as well as written information. It is organized by modules and follows the student's project... Read More from idea conception, research, screen design, user testing, and finishing with a project for their portfolio. During the process, the student has unlimited mentorship from individuals in the industry. They truly want to see you succeed. For the entirety of the course, there is a timeline to follow that includes dates for deliverables. That's meant to keep you on track. There are points when the deliverable can feel overwhelming and frustrating. Each deliverable must be approved before you can move on to the next. Due to the nature of the business, there can be numerous iterations for one deliverable so at times can feel like it'll never be completed. Again, the included mentorship can help get you past those points. For the course material, mentorship, and infrastructure (slack, student dashboard) I feel the tuition is a reasonable amount.

The money is totally worth it. I was scared to go back to school and pay all that money. I came across Avocademy and did my due diligence on research, TBH I was skeptical at first. I reached out to mentors so many times and felt like I didn't know much and they were so helpful and reassuring. The timeline to follow was a bit hard for me because I have kids and a full time job, but they were extremely understanding. It does have some difficulty, like the hi-fidelity screens. When I look at my portfolio, I'm so amazed that I was able to do something like this. I recommend Avocademy to anyone I talk to who wants to get into tech and don't know where to start. What truly set this program apart was its emphasis on hands-on projects and real clients who were product owners, developers, and startup founders. Avocademy mentors supported me with client deliverables by giving me feedback on my designs before submitting them to a client; they also supported me with my resume and interview prep. To add on, once I completed my client projects, I received portfolio feedback. It took me 5 months to land my job, and I felt supported by the community.

When I signed up for Foundations and Career Jumpstart, I had no idea how it would transform me and my life! Despite the ups and downs and many challenges throughout this process of changing careers, signing up with Avocademy was one of the best decisions... Read More I've ever made. During Career Jumpstart, you get to take on real client projects which is the best way to hone your skills IMO (high stakes=high rewards). It was intense, but also incredibly rewarding. I wasn't just reading about design principles—I was living and breathing them daily as I iterated on wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups. The program helped me design a solid portfolio of work to continue iterating on as I grow. Maca and the Avocademy team have cultivated an incredible network of industry veterans, hands-on learning, and constant upskilling that sets you up for success. The mentors I worked with were amazing and the student success team has your back. They were all a huge factor in my success as a designer and during interviews. Honestly, if you're even remotely considering a career in UX/UI or product design-sign up!! A year from now you will thank yourself for getting started. When I first entered the course I was VERY leery as I had never done an online course before. Was I ready? Could I hold myself accountable to finish on time? These racing thoughts were quickly calmed as I got familiar with the program and those who teach... Read More within it. All of the mentors and professionals involved have done a great job answering any questions I had and assisting with difficult lessons. The one con I would add would be the project submission: there were times where I would submit a project with recommended edits and sometimes the same edits I had just submitted would still be present on my rubric, not necessarily at fault of anyone in particular but I think more communication between mentors while reviewing projects could be beneficial
